Carolien's fast lane life

Yes, another fresh weekday diary from our Carolien. Because you know: she never sits still…

There are very few moments when I feel down about my work, but last week I was a bit apprehensive... Four nights in a row filming until 6 AM, feeling like I had a massive jetlag for a week as a result. So I tried to take all the measures to get through that week as well as possible: lots of fruit, earplugs so I could sleep at least six hours during the day, and a massage to recharge completely. After a short Google session, I ended up at the number one spa in Brussels: Serendip Spa & Yoga. Upon entering, I was immediately zen from the lovely incense, Eastern music, and the super relaxed staff. The masseur suggested a customized massage based on a few questions, and an hour later I was floating and smelling of lavender oil outside again. Night shoot or not, I will keep this session in my routine weekly as long as I have to shoot in Brussels!

Jon and I are spending more time abroad than in our own ‘little palace’ this month. He first went to Cannes and then directly to Paris for film shoots, while I am going back and forth in Brussels and this week also to Paris ‘for some serious wedding shopping’. Since our engagement (which was 2.5 years ago), I have been fantasizing about the dress, the location, and -how could it be otherwise with my sugar addiction- the cake. Now everyone who has read even half an interview about me knows that I am extremely addicted to macarons. The very first time I walked into Ladurée, I was convinced that my ideal heaven would look like this. Especially those giant macaron towers looked unrealistically perfect: what if that became my wedding cake? Whether that worked out, you can read in my wedding diary.

Unfortunately, my feet have been screaming for years for shoes without heels... As much as I regret it, I obediently respond and have now started a quest for the perfect chic flat shoe. Especially during my trip to Paris, I need to come très fashionable and compete with all those high-heeled Parisiennes with the coolest flat shoes. Luckily, I found these beauties from the brand Rollie last week: they fit like slippers and can literally be combined with any outfit. For the first time, I found a heelless shoe that I could wear under my evening dress last night. By the end of the evening, I saw all those Parisiennes staring enviously while they struggled to leave the establishment over the cobblestones without twisting their ankles. Carolien vs. high heels: 1-0.

If you can dine culinarily anywhere, it is in the city of love. I had already done my homework and reserved a whole list of hotspots in advance. We started with lunch at restaurant Monsieur Blue. With a view of the Eiffel Tower, we enjoyed our first coupe à champagne and delicious burrata. Then, of course, we had to do a macaron round at Ladurée and Pierre Hermé, and a few hours later we were back at Restaurant Mini Palais, where you are practically dining in the ‘Grand Palais’ (the location of the Chanel show the day after, mind you). I'm afraid we will have to push that fitting for my wedding dress back a week; otherwise, they can directly order a size larger...

When we had to choose cutlery for our new casa, I absolutely had to have everything in gold. Now I know exactly where this ‘urge’ originated, namely during my graduation dinner at Beluga where the golden cutlery looked so beautiful on the tables... So I found the affordable version at Seletti and was as happy as a child when I got to set our table with it for the first time. Now, two years later, there is hardly any gold left, and I mostly eat with rusty and half-brown cutlery... Time for something new! At such moments, shopping addictions like vente-exclusive.com are very handy: in the morning, I opened the website as part of my daily routine when I saw a cutlery sale from Sola appear. I didn't hesitate for a moment, and two minutes later the site thanked me warmly for the order. I can tell you: I have never been so happy with my impulse purchase!
