Carolien’s wedding diary
Actually, all preparations for our wedding went almost flawlessly. Occasionally a small stress point about the overall organization or a guest who still hadn't booked their flight ticket, but nothing serious to completely panic about. Until a week before the moment supreme. When Murphy's law kicked in, a pile-up of things suddenly went wrong: our potential cameraman got bursitis and suddenly we were without one, and Jon had to take a lot more equipment in the bus than expected...
So there we were, a day before departure to Italy, with our hands in our hair, next to an overflowing bus mainly filled with equipment, in which 42 boxes of wine and bubbles still had to be loaded. You understand: complete panic. I have learned that in such situations I fortunately immediately switch to survival mode and try to come up with a thousand solutions. And luckily, those soon came in the form of our saving angels from LM Flower Fashion, who would drive the next day with a truck full of beautiful flowers to our wedding location. When my husband had delivered all the drinks neatly at the flower truck and he was on his way to Italy with a full cart, my real preparations could begin. Weeks before, I had already scheduled a whole list of appointments: first dyeing my eyebrows, then a Delete Waxing treatment, and then a very important part of my ‘outfit’: a manicure and pedicure. Through my girlfriend Sanne, I was tipped off about nail artist Jessica Scholten: she truly makes the most beautiful creations ever!
Together we chose the beautiful OPI color ‘Tiramisu for Two’ with a golden line over it. Then I was so panicked about whether those nails would hold up until the big day that I literally washed my hair with silver shampoo while wearing latex gloves... I know, this is really going too far, but just imagine if that purple shampoo color would seep into my nails? The last thing I had to do was pick up my dream dress at Bloomfeld. I absolutely wanted to take it on board, because what if something happened to that bus...
On Tuesday morning, I stepped into the Abel taxi a bit stressed with two huge garment bags on my way to Schiphol. At customs, I placed the bags on the detection belt as if there were 9 kilos of pure gold hidden inside, but fortunately, they emerged unscathed on the other side. And on board, by chance, there were three seats available next to each other, allowing my dress to fly superbusiness and lie completely flat. But once in Italy, I had momentarily forgotten that we had to cram ourselves with four people plus luggage into a Fiat 500... So I was still sitting with my dress folded four times in the back and could do nothing but pray that we would arrive at our destination quickly. Upon opening the bags, fortunately, a flawless dress, veil, and overcoat appeared. Oh guys, I made it! Now just to set everything up, pack the goodie bags, connect the equipment, and hope that I don't get stung in the face by a mosquito or wasp... It’s almost time to say ‘I DO!’
