CAROLIEN’S WEDDING DIARY
While we are already busy with all the preparations, our potential guests know nothing yet. For them, the excitement only begins when they receive the invite. To get everyone a little excited, we immediately went all out by announcing our wedding date and location with a video message (a kind of short film, one of the many advantages of having a director as a fiancé). Everyone reacted enthusiastically and the expectations were immediately high. Great: we set the bar quite high for ourselves right away. So I dove into a slight panic behind Pinterest looking for the most original invite ever. Message in a bottle, handwritten, small booklets; I saw everything pass by. But since we are both quite visually oriented, we thought it would be nicer to represent something visually.
And then I had an idea: do you remember those Viewmasters from back in the day? It was a kind of binoculars with 3D photos, where you could click a lever to see the next photo and view a total of seven images. But could you also personalize such a 3D photo disc? After a round of Google, I found one company in the Netherlands that could do this. Then we still had to decide which images and text would be included… It became a little story starting with “Once upon a time…” and ending with the invitation to be present at the most important day of our lives. The costs were not exactly a joke, but if this worked out, we would have the coolest invite ever! Fortunately, the result was beautiful: the photos were all neatly translated into 3D and the text was easy to read. The Viewmasters were, of course, ‘virgin’ white and were delivered in a matching colored box. To see the reactions live, we personally handed out all the invites. And fortunately, they were all praising…
Carolien's tip: Be creative and get inspiration online. There are so incredibly many creative ways to announce your wedding, and it doesn’t have to be expensive at all! One of the fun ideas I found was the message in a bottle: all you need is a handwritten invite, a glass bottle (throw a summer party and you have enough bottles to send an invite to the whole village), paint the cork gold and tie a nice golden ribbon around the bottle.
