Cool new restaurants in Amsterdam

With terraces

I could easily write a new list every week, because how often I discover something new while cycling through my city is very often. Actually, it's hard to keep up. Today, I'm sticking to cool, fun new restaurants with sunny terraces in Amsterdam. It seems like we're going to have an Indian summer, and knowing Amsterdam, we'll all head out in search of cold wine.

Yokiyo

Back from being gone. Yokiyo was first located in the Amsterdam Red Light District, but now you cycle to the heart of East for the new place. This is about Korean BBQ, noodles, and incredibly delicious Asian snacks to share. Outside, there are beer tables where you can eat with a group, but joining another cozy couple is of course also possible. You can also chill a bit in very relaxed beach chairs. An Asian beer on the side, sun on your head, and you have a vacation in your own country.

Louie Louie

We're staying a bit longer in East, because you can sit wonderfully on the street at Louie Louie. This café is run by the same guys who also own De Biertuin and Bar Bukowski, so you know: this is a fun, vibrant place. It's also a very good spot for a pre-dinner drink, because there is a huge bar, but outside at the beautiful large windows of Louie Louie, there are also cozy seating spots from where you can watch passing people very well.

Mr. Nieges

Mentioned once before in my posts, but Nieges has an incredibly tasty and large terrace by the water. You can choose a table under a large umbrella or a picnic table in the full sun. Swimming in the IJ is actually not allowed (I believe), but it happens all the time. The menu features amazing fries (yes, I said that) and for lunch, they really have the best smashed avocado sandwich.

De School

Here you could basically hang around for 24 hours. There is a club, a restaurant, a breakfast/lunch spot, a gym: everything to not want to leave. Very hip Amsterdam finds its place here and the café has a lovely large terrace. And if you're lucky, a barbecue will be lit.

Bonus tip

GlouGlou, a wine bar in the Pijp. It has been around for a while so I'm cheating a bit, but it has a really nice terrace near the Van der Helstplein, which is a very cozy but also quiet spot in the busy Pijp. GlouGlou has a relaxed atmosphere, no frills, and you sit at quirky wooden tables and on folding chairs that are on the terrace. It's actually a little bit of abroad. The girls in the service (for some reason, only women work when I'm there) really know a lot about wine and are very nice. On the menu, you'll find tasty snacks that are just a bit different, like canned sardines, cheeses, or pâté from De Pasteibakkerij.
