Dinner with
anouk bos
Anouk Bos has been a friend of Amayzine for a long time. At first, we met at the Soho Hotel in London during fashion week or at the Conservatorium when she was in the country, but now I would have to get on a plane to Stockholm for dinner with her. With all love of course, but for convenience, I spoke to Anouk via email. About food. Naturally.
Where in the world is your favorite restaurant?
‘Oh, that's a tough one. I know some really good Japanese places (besides Nobu and Zuma in London) like Yashin Ocean House in London (tip!), places where I go to eat the best fish (Nautilus in Mykonos for example) and restaurants where you come not only for the food but also for the atmosphere like Nammos in Mykonos and Papa in Stockholm. And then there was that Portuguese restaurant whose tiger prawns I still dream about. Furthermore, I love French cuisine. L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in London is fantastic.’
‘It can be anyone.
It can be anyone.
‘With my friend Leonora Loovens, she is half Italian, half Belgian and such a gourmet that it's almost funny. Her taste is contagious. The way she presents food and is involved with it... She knows a lot about food. She has been saying for years that she wants to do something with food (a blog, a book, something on YouTube?). Hopefully, something will come of it. You will understand; I love going out to eat with her, but sometimes I prefer that she cooks herself, haha!’
Where do you prefer to sit in a restaurant?
‘At the back so I can oversee everything. Preferably not by the walkway, in front of a door, or on the way to the toilet.’
What do you always hope is on a menu?
‘I try a lot and especially love fresh and simple. Pure flavors then. A fresh white fish with olive oil, a slice of lemon, some parsley, and pepper and salt, and I'm happy. I lived in England for five years. Believe me: you really hope that there are just good fresh seasonal vegetables as a side dish on the menu.’
And do you also have something you detest?
‘I once ordered Ossobuco. It was absolutely not a fancy restaurant so that could be the reason, but the appearance was literally a piece of marrow with a snot-like substance in it. I'm not picky, but I politely declined.’
Do you find your way on the wine list?
‘I want to learn more about wines because I find it super interesting. When we go out to eat at a good restaurant, it's usually with someone who knows about wines and I take pictures of the bottle, haha. I recently downloaded the Vivino app. It scans the label and tells you all the information. Ideal. A Sancerre always makes me happy.’
Starter or dessert?
‘Before my pregnancy, it was always starter, but my taste has changed. Very strange. I would now rather go for dessert. I love cake.’
If you cook extensively at home for your two men,
what comes to the table?
‘I haven't cooked extensively in a long time. I'm more into healthy, easy-to-prepare recipes that don't take longer than 45 minutes in the kitchen. Venetian fish is always very tasty to me and I recently made buffalo wings according to a recipe. Not very gourmet, but greatly appreciated by my husband.’
What fun project are you currently working on?
‘Besides my blog and social channels (AnoukYve), I am busy with my new company Buro Hashtag. We currently have three major clients that we guide in their content strategy. In addition, we have been working on building an app for two years. That combined with my baby is quite busy, haha.’
