Kiki is on a diet as you know. She neatly places the Cup-a-Soup, Tuc minibites, and grapes on the corner of her desk as she takes a seat across from me. Look, I have a few thoughts about that and I try to express them calmly and gradually and give advice. Not today about what is good and not good for you when you're watching your weight, but about where you prefer to eat and what absolutely must be on the menu. Well Kiki, take it away.
‘I keep it close to home. I really like De Markt in Utrecht as a restaurant. It’s always busy there (so cozy), they have a lot of platters with sausages and cheeses, and I always feel like I’m a bit abroad. And I have really never been served so kindly, the staff there understands exactly how hospitality works. Oh wait, I’m also thinking of restaurant Mikla in Istanbul where I have been. There is a sky lounge with an amazing view over the city and the cuisine is Turkish-Scandinavian.’
‘That is very clear. With Beyoncé. Especially since she once dissed me because an interview with her suddenly didn’t go through. I really think she is a very pleasant eater.’
‘I always look for a chair in the outer ring and preferably by the window. Not too close to the door or the kitchen, because that’s such a thoroughfare and I find that uninviting. And I also always like to sit at a large table, because then I have plenty of eating space.’
‘For dessert something with cheesecake, or a chocolate lava explosion. And with sushi and sashimi, you also make me very happy.’
‘Not at all. I always just order a Rioja if it’s on the menu because I have a nice memory of it with Spanish friends. For the rest, I always let myself be well informed. Give me a sip of something and I wouldn’t quickly say that I don’t like something. As long as it’s not Lambrusco or Canei of course.’
‘I really think this is a silly question. Actually both.’
‘Moewah, so much always goes wrong. I would love to just make a steak or a really good truffle or mushroom risotto normally. Is that difficult? Maybe I just don’t have the patience.’
