Finally. All those dinners and parties are really fun, but now it's enough for a while. I'm completely done with it. January 1st is a day when many people start their resolutions, or in other words: new lives. I always do a dry January. You can see it as a resolution (but usually resolutions fail anyway), but I find such a month easy to stick to, so I call it more of a decision. The worst part is that I really notice a lot of difference. I feel fit, sharp, and good. And I don't drink that much anyway, I think. The fun part about this year is that I managed to get May-Britt Mobach to join in. You know, she likes to end the day with a glass of wine. “Oh come on, easy peasy, I've been pregnant three times, so.” We made sure to promise each other not to cheat. I found that especially important because I can't keep an eye on everything May does. We've encouraged several people, as almost the entire editorial team is joining us. We start on January 4th, on a Monday, and end on the 31st, it's that simple. Oh yes: May can stop a little earlier because she's flying to South Africa at the end of January and if there's good wine coming from somewhere... That was fine by me.
Are you joining us? This is how you'll succeed.
– Find someone to join you. Together you are stronger.
– Indeed, parties can be a bit boring and at some point, you get really tired while “the drinker” is just getting into it. So be it, that's how it is. It's temporary and look on the bright side, because the next day you'll be fresh and fruity.
– Make a fun calendar where you cross off the days. Crossing off is fun.
– Go exercise if you feel like having a glass of wine. You'll thank me when you stand on the scale at the end of the month.
– Make a party out of your alcohol-free drink. A slice of lemon, a sprig of mint, that kind of thing. Pour something nice into a wine glass if necessary. Then you can pretend.
– Buy something nice for yourself that you can only unwrap on the 31st. You deserve it.
