How does a shopstop work
I have a shopping stop. That was necessary because I was shopping too much. And by that, I mean that my bank account is empty at the end of the month and there is still a lot of clothing in my closet with the price tags still on. Sometimes I would just feel a bit nauseous when another package was brought to the editorial office (I only shop online, you should know).
I am glad that I am a woman and that you can become incredibly happy from something very simple (a piece of clothing) and that such an item can really, if needed, lift your mood. But now I found it too much and decided: I don't need anything for the next few months. Really not. The off-shoulder dresses are already ready for summer, along with date night clothes that my beloved has never even seen. The wedding season has started and a friend comes to ‘shop’ in my closet weekly and then I suddenly see how much beautiful stuff I actually already have. So. SHOP STOP.
What do I gain from it?
- Well, I should have money left at the end of the month. If that is a lot, then I actually find that a very serious matter, but also a nice bonus.
- I am forced to wear everything from my closet. I have a certain selection of clothing that I prefer to wear and for a festive occasion, I buy something new. I notice by now (I have already started the shopping stop for a while) that I often pull something from my closet that I have never worn and then I also realize how much fun stuff I actually already have.
- I appreciate what I already have more now. It is especially very nice to wear something that has been hanging for a long time but has never been chosen. I make sure everything is ironed and looks attractive and inviting, and that already gives me satisfaction.

How do I approach something like this?
- You may find me childish, but I find it a celebration every evening. Because then I get to put a cross. I have drawn 93 boxes on a large sheet. Yes people, that is three MONTHS. And every day I cross one off.
- I am an online shopper and extremely sensitive to newsletters with texts like: ‘Hey, the new collection is in.’ So I have turned off those notifications. J.Crew and The Outnet are no longer coming into my mailbox for a while.
- I have also temporarily unfollowed The Outnet's Instagram.
- What I wrote earlier: make sure your wardrobe is super duper neat, that everything is ironed and looks attractive and inviting. I discover new pieces of clothing that have been hanging in my closet for years.
- Don't keep it a secret, but come out with it. This way, others (in my case friends, Amayzine, and my boy) can keep an eye on you too.
- Tell yourself very often: I don't need anything for the time being. And that is REALLY TRUE.
- And then lastly: it's just a matter of gritting your teeth. But I am sure that I will have a lot of fun from this. The money I save goes straight to the vacation. Or into savings, that could also be an option. But it definitely gives a nice feeling.
