THESE 5 FESTIVALS ARE GOING TO BE SO HIPPERDEPIP
Be the first to know
And yes, we know our festival classics! Lowlands, Pinkpop, Parkpop, Concert at SEA, Buiten Westen, Zwarte Cross, Groezrock, Into The Great Wide Open, Down The Rabbit Hole, Best Kept Secret, Mysteryland, Milkshake Festival, Dance Valley, Loveland Festival, Appelsap… Okay, you get my point, sorry I got carried away. But the list of festivals is just so freaking endless and just imagine if I accidentally miss a classic, that would be terrible.
This is what you wear to a festival with mediocre weather.
However, I’m going to talk about new festivals here: festivals that are still a bit under the radar. Where you won’t be swept away by the crowds, where it’s still a bit like festivals used to be back in the day. You know, quieter, chill, with a us-against-the-rest-of-the-world feeling and no excruciatingly long lines at the bar. That’s what we want! That’s what we need! I mean, these are tough times, aren’t they!
1. Good. The first festival I want to talk about is a relatively new festival in Belgium: La Truite Magique, from August 12 to 14. The festival grounds are fantastic, right in the Ardennes, in a forest, near a stream. It’s truly a magical state, a festival that is extremely suitable for music lovers who don’t like the crowds. There are also little hotels nearby where you can stay if you get a panic attack at the word camping. I’m telling you: in a few years it will be just as hard to get tickets here as for Into The Great Wide Open. You have to go here, hurry like a hare.
2. Then another one: Japies Hof, on July 2 at the Amsterdam Jaap Eden Baan, where it’s stunningly green and oasis-like in the summer. In a nutshell: family atmosphere, star chefs making the most divine dishes for you, cool bands, dancing until you go crazy, all kinds of artistic projects (to participate in or to watch) and a cool kids' festival section. With which it distinguishes itself with a bang from the rest of the new festivals. Oh yes, and Sien Concepts (from The NeighbourFood Market) and Can You Hear Me (from Bungalup, Valtifest and Where The Wild Things Are) are involved in the organization, so you know it’s going to be great. This is going to be a big hit.
“It’s the rising star among festival grounds”
3. Check this one out: Foodtruck Festival De Culinaire Verleiding is taking place from June 24 to 26 (that’s almost here!) at the Hembrugterrein in Zaandam. And for those who didn’t know: the Hembrugterrein is the rising star among festival grounds, a biggie in the making. It’s a beautifully historic factory site in Zaandam that was originally used by the Dutch artillery for the production of weapons and ammunition. But the danger has passed and now all sorts of events are organized here, like this food truck festival with 25 trucks full of goodies from all over. Tasty plan.
4. The Festella Festival is also mega cool. This is the absolute chocolate paradise. Think: countless food trucks with chocolate creations, live acts, bands, DJs, and a Ferris wheel. And if you’ve had enough of all that chocolate: there’s also plenty of savory options to grab. Festella takes place on Saturday, July 16 from 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM at the Stadspodium grounds, Turbinestraat 12 in Amsterdam. It’s going to be a feast, guys.
5. And we close the list with the Amsterdam Woods Festival in the Amsterdamse Bos, on August 26 and 27. Which is a TOP forest and that’s just a fact. Seriously, you want to dance, flirt, and drink here. With a cozy and especially NOT huge crowd. You can hang out in hammocks, watch movies (because the festival is organized in collaboration with IDFA and Melkweg), check out the coolest artists, and of course, you can eat until you weigh a hundred thousand grams. Because there’s a lot of delicious and high-quality food. You have to go, I’ll come get you if you don’t!
