IT IS DELIGHTFUL MESSAGING WITH THESE 18 ABBREVIATIONS
Good. I just heard that I can confuse people quite a bit with my messages. They tend to burst at the seams due to the many abbreviations. But where I think I'm being handy, smart, and moreover quick, some recipients seem to get seriously confused. That can never be the intention. And that's why I've made an explanatory list. Then I don't have to stop (it takes me way too much time and time is money). Besides, I'm certainly not the only one who uses these abbreviations. I'm not crazy.
1. IIG – I start easy, you should know this one, it means: in any case.
2. FML – f*ck my life. To be used in serious situations, but of course (and especially) in less serious situations. For example, when the wine is finished. Or when you have no nice clothes left to wear. Or is that just a serious situation? I think so.
3. OMG – oh my god, if you're still confused by this, then maybe things aren't going so well for you.
4. GEZEL – this one might be a bit childish, but it's very cozy, and sometimes you just want everything to be cozy for once in your life.
5. DAFAK – this means what the f*ck. Secretly, I always feel very cool and rapper-like when I type this abbreviation. You should try it, it's delightful. You can also use it in various ways. For example, when someone just said something remarkable (like: I ordered 8000 euros worth of shoes yesterday), or when someone cancels a super cool date at the last minute, or when you've arranged to meet your friends in a cool place, but you can't find them. Then you type: DAFAK where are you guys. DAFAK really.
6. LMK – Let me know. For when you really want to know something. You should only not use this abbreviation in a message to someone who doesn't know it, because then you might be waiting a long time.
7. FELI – means congratulations. Super fun, nothing more to add.
8. BTW – has nothing to do with your VAT return, but everything with by the way.
9. A.K.A. – or: also known as. Super cool to use when you've just had a baby. You send a photo and then a.k.a. ‘the name’. Also very fun during carnival.
10. OMW – On my way. I think you shouldn't send this abbreviation to someone who hasn't read this explanatory list yet, otherwise the recipient might think you've become unwell while typing.
11. MOG – Or also: Good morning! I find it wonderfully Dutch.
12. ASAP – As soon as possible. In other words: as fast as possible. So no weird juice or something.
13. IDC – we're not talking about a weird computer brand here. It simply means: I don’t care.
14. IC – no, no panic, no one is in the Intensive Care. It means: I see. Or: I understand.
15. LOL – it indeed means lol, so in Dutch it's quite clear. But actually it means: laughing out loud.
16. TTYL and TTYS – I also found this really extraterrestrial at first, but it means something friendly: talk to you later, or talk to you soon.
17. FB – This means Facebook. What would we do without it.
18. FYI – This was all Four Your Information. You're welcome. Or is there also an abbreviation for that?
Of course, I've forgotten thousands of abbreviations. But don't hesitate. Climb into your keyboard (did I really write that? Yes, I really wrote that) and let me know which abbreviations you use.
