LOVE IS IN THE AIR
We can finally date in the clouds
Traveling and especially flying is really the most fun thing there is. Luckily, otherwise I would never have survived those three years long-distance love of course. I prefer to do it alone so I don't have to consider anyone else, can shop a bit tax-free, have a coffee here, a glass of wine there, watch ‘Hello Goodbye’ scenes and then up in the air. Obligatory a few hours of doing nothing. Because you know: I have quite a bit of trouble with that, taking a break and doing nothing.
But long flights can also be quite boring when you travel alone. At some point, you've finished your book and you're also done staring at that little screen in front of you. And I don't know about you, but I always have the bad luck of either sitting next to a screaming child or having a fat sweating 60+ person in front of me who keeps pushing the seat back against my long legs. Not pretty. What am I saying, it's downright irritating.
“Tinder? So 2016…”
The British Michael Richard is changing that. Well, not for that fat 60+ person in front of you, but he has found a way to kill time for people like me. Pff, okay, for singles like me. As a full-time single traveler, Richard was looking for a way to connect with single ladies. Normal dating apps didn't work for him because he was away from home a lot. One plus one became two and from that flowed the offline dating app AirDates. Users of the new dating app are not dependent on wifi and don't have to worry about their entire data being used up. Air Dates is paired with FireChat, a network that connects people without the internet. Michael hopes that his app will make it possible to meet other singles on board. The advantage of this way of dating is that you don't have to swipe and match for a while first, but you meet each other right away. No no no, no Mile High Club you dirty bitch, it's actually a very neat app designed to get to know each other and perhaps have a cup of coffee together at the emergency exit. You can also just go straight to the GTs. And hopefully, the hours in the air will fly by.
Currently, the app is only available for iOS, but Richard hopes to expand in February.
I believe I'm going to book a trip. Tinder? So 2016…
