Marie Claire in Malibu

For months I had been looking forward to it and last Friday it was finally here: the Will Ferrell & Chad Smith’s Red Hot Benefit. A Comedy & Music show. Here’s the thing. Chad Smith, the drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the incredibly funny actor Will Ferrell look like two peas in a pod. They appeared identically dressed together on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon for a hilarious drum-off. This led to the idea of organizing a benefit concert for students who have survived cancer but can no longer get a loan.

”And man, what a spectacle it was”

A good cause and a unique opportunity for a one-time show with the surprise act being the Red Hot Chili Peppers. And man, what a spectacle it was. It was a kind of colorful evening filled with all sorts of funny and musical acts featuring the biggest names. From the band Devo, drummers from The Police, Foo Fighters, and Tommy Lee to the drummer of Fleetwood Mac who came on stage with a huge fanfare. Will Ferrell made his entrance in a unitard with a ladies' jazz ballet group dancing to Hello by Adele, culminating in the closing act of the evening, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Anthony Kiedis and Flea just as cool and energetic as ever. It felt like I was back in time, dancing and singing along to Scar Tissue. They closed the evening with their version of Higher Ground from the album Mother’s Milk. A unique evening. A party for a good cause. And we were there. I will never forget this.
