MARIE-CLAIRE IN MALIBU
If you listen to the stories of Marie-Claire Witlox who moved to Malibu with children and loved ones, you can only think one thing: I want that too. Today a fresh adventure from la Hollandaise from Lala-land.
Paradise. It certainly looks a lot like it here. Waking up every day with the sun shining, palm trees, beach… Sigh. Every other day, I prefer to walk early in the morning with my love along the deserted beach of Point Dume in Malibu. Only accessible via a dune path and a very steep staircase down to a beach surrounded by rocks. Up and down it’s about five kilometers. Super for the start of the oh so beloved workout (it’s going quite well, you know). But how wonderful it is to walk along the coastline with the wind in your hair and the love of your life beside you, hearing the sea lapping against the rocks. In the sun, that too. You would think that nothing could disturb this beauty. Well, a little bit.
The grim dead body of a seal, or two… So sad. I like to hold on to the thought that they died because they unexpectedly crashed against the rocks during high tide, but deep down it gnaws at my conscience. It gnaws at me just as it did when I played the role of the doll Pebbles in the show Mr. Finney, based on the books by Princess Laurentien. Seal Pebbles almost died a terrible death because she only had plastic in her body. Quite gruesome for a children's puppet show, but that’s the reality. Since then, I have become much more aware of the amount of plastic we consume and throw everywhere. How often do videos or alarming messages appear on Facebook about the fact that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the seas? Even though I already live quite consciously, I will pay even more attention to it again. What’s the trouble with taking a bag when you go to the store? Fortunately, in the Netherlands, you can no longer just get a plastic bag everywhere. They often ask if you need one or you even have to pay for it. So we are already well on our way. Or take a nice trendy glass bottle for your water instead of all those plastic variants. I would like paradise to remain a paradise and I would prefer to see those little seals diving by alive. That would complete the picture.
