May-Britt’s failed holiday

As I previously wrote here, I spent the holidays in the German mountains and before departure I had received a cold weather report from my father. I immediately remembered why it’s been an eternity since I last went skiing…

Packing a regular suitcase for five people is already quite the struggle, but add winter sports in the mix and the stress level is doubled. Warm outfits for during the day that look appealing are hard to find and then you want something fun for dinners for in the evening too. For some reason, hotels in ski areas always have tropical temperatures. They call it ‘luxury,’ but I find it to be unbelievably annoying because it means: you need to pack more clothes.

And that leads to the NYE party for which I needed at least two outfit options. Luckily our Renault Kadjar has a big enough trunk to fit in a ton of baggage, but still…

However, as soon as we entered the German mountains we noticed something… No snow. And it wasn’t cold. Which means I spent the entire week walking around in outfits I had planned to wear in the evenings. Better yet, I spent most of the week walking around in a bathing suit because there were absolutely no options to go skiing and so we fled to a heavenly spa with a beautiful indoor pool. The latter has become my new fantasy…

The good news is that I spent five wonderful days with my loved ones and had my parents around me for 24 hours a day just like when I was little. My mother turned seventy, hence this trip. And I have rediscovered my ski lust because of all the mountains. Thanks to Karl Lagerfeld, skiing is very à la mode due to his Métiers d’Art collection for Chanel. So Tirol, how about you stock up on some snow and we’ll be on our way.
