NEW YORK DIARY
Day 4
A day in New York can easily be multiplied by four. Because a day guarantees a fourfold amount of impressions and adventures and a number of kilometers walked, because here too I easily hit ten kilometers.
Where was I? Oh yes, at that interview that I unfortunately still can't talk about. Although I will be purchasing what that super-VIP created today. But anyway, after that interview I walked past restaurant Balthazar where that person (and her husband, who is also no pushover) turned out to be having lunch. Guys, that street was full, full, full of people. And with their cameras. I trudged through because hey, I had of course already had my conversation woman to woman and didn't need to lower myself to groupie level. What I would have done otherwise, really, don't underestimate me.
But I tiptoed towards a synagogue in the east. No church visit, no, there would be the collection presentation of Scotch & Soda. They had created a stunning still life in the church where their incredibly colorful and uplifting clothing came to life. There was some arguing between the photographer from Italian Vogue and some other types who wanted to capture the perfect shot and I thought: fine. A show of this level comes with some fuss and if it's with Vogue Italia, you're just doing well as a brand.
I trudged through because hey, I had of course already had my conversation woman to woman and didn't need to lower myself to groupie level.
And then you thought I was done? Well, not at all, huh. We walked westward again (okay, I took a taxi) to go behind the scenes at Prabal Gurung to see the makeup from M.A.C. It was plain and basic, except for the eyes. They were heavily lined both on the top and bottom. A trend, I tell you, because I had seen it at Carolina Herrera too. And there they mixed it with red lipstick as well. But M.A.C was stunning and pure, with a focus on the eyes. Had a little fun with model Harleth Kuusik who said that finally someone (us) had fun questions. Yesss! And Hailey Baldwin was sitting there in a corner being a superstar. Just be normal. Take a cue from our Dutch girl Roos Abels who was happily sitting cross-legged next to the cabinet with water bottles. Humility adorns a person and star attitudes are just so 2000.
And then and then and then it was indeed time for a bite and a sip. And at Morandi, my favorite. There was too much food and there was a glass of red wine. Also a glass of white, but that doesn't count, because Elke knocked it over. After that, Elke had to make her pilgrimage to Carrie’s stoop, because that house is around the corner from Morandi. And what do you think: at the moment the Pose was to be made for The Stoop, it happened. Elke stepped in a fresh dog poop. And that is New York. When you start floating, you get brought back down to earth.
