My life in a bag

WITH DAANTJE WELLING

It is Tuesday again. And that means it's time for a new bag. We would like to introduce you to Daantje Welling, who is a marketing & communication assistant at ILJA, with whom she will showcase couture again in Paris on January 27.

How many bags do you have?

‘This is my first designer bag. Besides that, I think I have about ten bags: from H&M to Michael Kors. To be honest, I’m more of a shoe girl, but that’s going to change.’

What is the story behind this bag?

‘I had been staring at this red Mulberry in the Bijenkorf for months and wanted it so badly! When I finally decided I was ready for it, it was sold out in half of Europe... Then it was quickly ‘out of sight, out of mind’, but a few weeks later I still got it for completing my master in Fashion Retail in London. Immediately in love again, as you can understand.’

How do you handle your bag?

‘As best as possible. He doesn’t go to the pub with me, I don’t take him out in the rain, and once home, I always put my bag down instead of hanging it up. Some days, however, that slips and it ends up in the corner of the room...‘

What about the content?

‘For me, this bag has the perfect dimensions: not too big and not too small. Everything has a fixed place, otherwise it doesn’t fit.’

What do you always have with you?

‘My wallet, keys, liquid lipstick, phone, and (still) cigarettes, but that will stop soon.’

What do you think are the best qualities a bag should have?

‘A bag must have the perfect proportions; quality, practical, and of course it must also be beautiful. Then I’m completely happy, everything can fit, and it gives your outfit a nice upgrade.‘

Which one is still on your wishlist?

‘A bit standard, but it’s true: the Chanel Classic Flap Bag remains a dream for me. The Chanel Boy Bag and the Luggage Handbag from Céline are also on the list.’
