My life in a bag

Surprise surprise, it’s Tuesday and the very first day of March, so what better way to start of the month than by checking out the insides of this bright little Gucci number owned by Maud Schellekens who has a great eye for catchy pieces.
How many bags do you own?
‘When I was sixteen I bought my very first designer bag; the Speedy 30 from Louis Vuitton. Almost six years later and I’ve got my tally on eight designer bags. A lot of women live by the words: “Diamonds are a girls best friend.” In my case, designer bags are my diamonds. Buying a bag is a full on project that can require months, maybe even years, of time. I’ll fall in love with a certain it-bag, I’ll spend time saving for it, then I’ll organize a shopping spree with my mom to go and purchase the it-bag.’
Wat is het verhaal achter deze tas?
‘This bag was a gift I bought for myself from the money I had earned working for a stylist in The Netherlands. I already owned a couple of basic bags and decided to opt for something different this time, so I went for suede in this stunning orange color. Knowing that I bought it with my own hard earned paycheck is such a thrill.’
Hoe zorg je voor je tassen?
‘It varies. Sometimes I’ll be a bit more reckless as to other times when I treat them as show ponies and just place them somewhere in my home so I can stare at them and be proud. I usually go for materials that can handle a bit of a beating, but this bag is a little more fragile as you can see. That’s the reason my mom prefers not lending me her bags, unless she’s with me, just so she can keep an eye on it.’
What about its content?
‘My bags are usual a pile of chaos. That’s why I love smaller bags so I won’t tag along more than I need. Like my Saint Laurent cardholder, my Clarins lip gloss, the YSL Opium perfume, a brush, a pocket sized agenda and my phone, evidently. Less useful things you might come across are receipts, movie theater tickets and lost polaroid photos.’
Wat neem je altijd mee?
‘My phone is the most important thing in my bag. I think it’s because I work for a stylist (who styles Dutch celebrities and the Dutch version of The Voice) and I update her social media. Social media never sleeps, so I have to be available 24/7 (so to speak). Other than my phone, I recently bought an agenda. Something I never used prior to this one. But since this year has got quite the bit of pressure since I’m currently working on my final thesis, it’s important to jot down all deadlines and appointments in there to have a clear overview.’
Wat denk je dat de beste kenmerken van een tas zijn?
‘The most important part of my outfit is always my bag. It’ll make or break your outfit. I love combining designer bags with items from Zara or Topshop for example. It gives your outfit that extra umph that it needs. Besides designer bags, I always like buying rad bags from Skinnydip London for the summer. In the summer I prefer something funky and catchy and perhaps somewhat impractical rather than a practical one that looks boring.’
Wat kunnen we nog op je verlanglijstje vinden?
‘I’m currently saving up for a white edition of the Balenciaga City Bag. I’ve already almost saved up just the right amount so pretty soon I’ll be treating myself to that baby once I’ve received my diploma. The perfect way to celebrate if I may say so myself…. ;-)’
