MY NEW FAVORITE WEIRDO

And not just mine, but of all of the Netherlands. This week he joined Z in Zaken (it's a big mystery why) and it turned out that he has really, REALLY sunk very deep. Because Mr. Tuur, who has been living in New York since 2008, still refuses to speak Dutch. “I just never liked to speaking Dutch.”

Exactly. And I say ‘still’, because when he participated in Sterren Springen in 2014, only English words came out of his lips. In the Z in Zaken appearance, he responds to the question of whether he used to shop at V&D with the following: “As a kid I used to live in Holland. And they have a lot of inexpensive stuff so as a kid I didn’t have a lot of money so I shopped there a lot.”

HE REALLY SAID IT. I have watched the clip at least ten times. “I never speak Dutch. But I understand you perfectly,” he declares. Aha aha exactly yes, because you grew up in HOLLAND maybe and are also just DUTCH? Just a guess.

Poor Tuur was running and almost got hypothermia from sweating, “it was one of the coldest days of the year.”

A few years ago there was also a fuss about him, because he had said that he was a hero during the Hudson crash. You might still remember it; in 2009 a plane had to make an emergency landing in the Hudson, and Regilio happened to be nearby, didn’t think for a second and jumped into the water to save people and so on. Poor Tuur was running and almost got hypothermia from sweating, “it was one of the coldest days of the year.” Anyway, it’s always good to emphasize your own suffering in the same context as a crashed plane.

The silly thing is that shortly after his media appearance about his newly acquired heroism, sounds came from all corners that Tuur had nothing to do with the crash at all. He supposedly wasn’t even nearby and was actually somewhere else in the city, where he had a chat with another Dutchman. Good, anyway, he had his media attention again for a moment.

By the way, I can highly recommend his Instagram account as well, because it’s full of gems and incomprehensible sentences.

And then there are some incidents regarding abuse. In 2003 he was sentenced to prison after he abused his then-girlfriend Pieternel and his ex-wife Melinda also filed a report for abuse. Super nice guy, that Regilio!

Look, once, in a distant past, he really was someone. Wiki tells me that he became world-famous in 1988 when he knocked out the then-world champion (Kelcie Banks) in one round at the Olympic Games in Seoul. And there were more important titles and awards, but in 2001 he stopped and focused on a career in fashion and his first venture immediately failed in bankruptcy.

And now he has a new strategy. If you just refuse to speak Dutch, it seems as if you are a specially flown-in superstar, and that’s how he still sees himself. By the way, I can highly recommend his Instagram account as well, because it’s full of gems and incomprehensible sentences. But well, that’s probably because we are just simple Dutch people who don’t speak English. Oh Regilio, I’m glad you’re back in the picture.
