onze meid in New York
Flower walls, veils, table arrangements, candles, wedding cakes, romantic invitations with curly letters and couples staring into each other's eyes. In my photo stream, there seems to be no end to this enormous wedding frenzy. And that confirms what I already feared: I have really experienced terribly little this week and have completely immersed myself in our upcoming wedding. Hence all those screenshots of sweet wedding Instagram accounts and all those missing photos of adventures experienced in New York. Fortunately, I find a few, like when I portrayed Blue for a snapshot at my favorite flower stand. Or like this colorful flower ensemble found at Union Square Farmers Market.
Friday is (almost) always the time for old-fashioned dating with my fiancé. We had huge romantic plans, but then friend L. and friend M. called to see if we were going to the Biergarten. That is the place for beer, sausage, and tourists in Meatpacking. Totally not romantic and actually forbidden for ‘real’ New Yorkers. But hey, the pink sky was romantic for us. I Instagram-snap (how exhausting is that extra Snapchat by the way) yet another ordinary air kiss into the online world, and then we drink beer, end up in a secret club, and I have a headache on Saturday.
At ten o'clock in the morning, we are in the taxi. Blue has a dripping nose again and I hold a spit bag at the ready in case things go wrong. Fortunately, everything goes well and we step out of the taxi unscathed at Central Park. Finally, after three years of living in Manhattan, I am at the Bow Bridge. Delightfully touristy but this spot had not yet been checked off and for Blue, it’s also a moment to enjoy, frolicking in the park.
Every few months, our monster needs a haircut, and this week it was time again. He always finds it a hassle and so do I. Whining and barking, I leave the poor darling behind. Fortunately, time flies and I can pick up Blue again. Once again transformed into Prince Puff, but totally content with his airy hairstyle.
So this week I will cross the street. Everything, and I mean everything, will be captured on camera. So prepare for a tsunami of images next week to make up for this meager affair. I promise!
