Happy & Healthy

People, put that phone down and read a book.

Recently, I was at the AKO at Utrecht Central. Usually, I go there just to buy cigarettes. Occasionally for a fresh LINDA., Vogue, or Elle. This time for a book. It felt fake to just be a ‘vacation reader’. due to lack of time and I decided to grab the book that was number 1 on the top 10.

It was Huidpijn by Saskia Noort. About the life of Anne, the Netherlands' most popular television presenter and journalist. When she risks losing her great love and thus her dream, and the sadness about this is widely covered in the press, she must do everything she can to not be abandoned by her friends, family, and her own mind as well. Sounded quite intriguing. No idea when on earth I was going to have time for this book, but it went, hup, home with me. We are now three days later. The book is finished. Every evening for an hour and last night I turned the last page. It has brought me to the insight that I already knew but had momentarily forgotten: reading books is particularly nice. And we do it far too little. Always busy with that phone call, while there are countless benefits to reading books. I'll tell you which.

People who read have have a higher salary

Yes, you read that right. According to various researchers, children who grow up with reading generally have a better social status in their later life than children who read little or not at all.

You fall asleep more easily afterwards

So I suddenly decided to buy a book, turned out to be a binge reader, went to bed at half past ten so I could read for at least an hour, and then fell asleep like a rose. After an hour of Instagramming on my phone, I snore a lot less quickly.

It looks cool

Honestly, for someone with a full bookshelf, you immediately have much more respect. That person must know an absurd amount.

Dag stress

Just six minutes of reading a day can help reduce your stress by more than two-thirds. According to scientists, this is because you concentrate and immerse yourself in another world. This reduces the tension in your muscles and lowers your heart rate.

You learn new fun words

Which is certainly not a bad idea in my field. And probably not in yours either.

Reading has a therapeutic effect

Scientists from the University of Liverpool have discovered that reading has a beneficial effect on your mood. It can change your thought process, help you think better about your own situation, and put what you experience in a different light. And it can also create new connections in the brain. I'm telling you again: people who read have half the world. Hup, and now on to the bookstore. Very quickly.
