MARIE-CLAIRE IN MALIBU
New Orleans had been on my wishlist for a long time of places I would like to visit someday. And for not very annoying reasons (Jeroen is an acting coach for, among others, Seal in the American version of The Passion!), we are spending a little week in NOLA. It's hilarious just the accent that the people here speak: ‘y’all!’ It feels like I've stepped into a movie. The Mississippi River, the musicians on every corner of the street, the beautiful picturesque streets of The French Quarter… I feel at home here. Since I learned about the origins of jazz here in New Orleans during jazz music history at the conservatory, I had a great desire to visit the Preservation Hall. In this jazz club, founded in 1961, the crème de la crème of the jazz world plays seven days a week, three times an evening to keep traditional New Orleans jazz alive. People of all ages are welcome. With the whole family, we settled down in front on the ground to witness these jazz legends. We saw a set of three quarters of an hour where tears occasionally sprang to my eyes from the amazing improvisations. Well, dear people, this is one for your list, you know. I’m crossing it off and will enjoy it for a long time to come!
