RENSKE HAS AN OBSESSION FOR TAPESTRIES AND THIS IS WHY

People! You read it right. I have an obsession with tapestries. However, we don't need to panic together about the fact that I'm going crazy, because tapestries are incredibly in demand in interior design. wall in the interior world.

Further reading is now at your own risk, because before you know it, you also want a hundred tapestries.

Okay, I'll first give you a short history lesson on tapestries, because I always wanted to study history, but my father didn't think that was good since you couldn't earn money with history, so now I just annoy people with history lessons whenever I can. And this time my history lesson is about tapestries.

The very first tapestry was designed by – wait, I have no idea about that, I'm not that specialized. My god, do I have to manage expectations right away here?! Anyway, this is what I do know. In 1295, at the court of Louis XIV, a tapissière was already used: someone who covered the rooms in the palace with valuable tapestries, draperies, and wall coverings. Oh, and the tapissière also designed the many lounge and seating furniture and ensured that each room had a clear ‘female’ or ‘male’ space. Wow, cool job actually. Anyway, they already had tapestries back then. And they also had tapestries in the time of Cinderella, because in the movie, Cinderella's stepmother says she must immediately shake out the tapestries.

Unfortunately for the tapestries and the tapissière and Cinderella's stepmother, the tapestries disappeared from the scene at the beginning of the 19th century: Berlage became popular and advocated for a simplification of the interior image. However, in the 1970s, they made a comeback – back then, the interior had to be cozy, warm, and inviting again, and we had renewed love for handicrafts and old crafts. And today, tapestries (for the same reasons) are also hotter than hot. Interior stylists are once again embracing the 1970s and the corresponding warm interior image. Hooray!

I am personally very enthusiastic about it.

Now I will tip you my five favorite tapestries of the moment. They are all new pieces, but you can also search for a vintage piece on Marktplaats. Just make sure to shake it out. Anyway, buy a tapestry immediately. They look unexpectedly cool above a vintage sideboard or sofa, but also work perfectly in the hallway.

Renske's current top five tapestries

1. This tapestry from HK Living is a DOT, right? It is quite large. But that's really nice, because otherwise, you have to point people to your tapestry. Like: have you seen my tapestry? Always a bit awkward.

Price: €169

2. Do you prefer a basic vibe? Then go for this (small) handwoven cotton variant from (again) HK Living. Super smart if you want to add some texture to a space without it being too overpowering right away.

4. Check this large macramé jetser from MaduMadu then. Your interior is instantly warm, cool, and super current. That's what I say, what a stylish piece.
