SNAPCHAT, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO US?

Amayzine is divided into two camps: the Snappers and the non-Snappers. May-Britt and myself included are both in the latter. Instagram takes up enough of our time already – and besides, we’re kind of sick of all the Coachella flower garlands on filtered faces, rainbow spewing squirrels and dog tongues.

But still, I don’t want to be the grumpy dwarf here, I completely understand that Snapchat is a thing nowadays. And sometimes I hate the fact that it means I can’t join in on conversations about the bizarre things Kim K. has posted on her Snap. Luckily this is when I head on over to our interns or Elke for a dose of Snap injection.

“How great is it to spontaneously go through life with plenty of filters on Snapchat”

And what I realize when I head back to my desk is: I’m starting to like it more. Because how great is it to spontaneously go through life with plenty of filters on Snapchat? And more importantly: how satisfying is it to join Gigi Hadid and other fashion week ladies behind the scenes. And okay, the cat filter really had me sold.

BUT YOU’LL NEVER BELIEVE WHAT THEY’RE UP TO NOW.

Snapchat added a new update two days ago in which they announced that the whole principle of the app is actually going to disappear. The ‘Memories’ function is being added which will allow you to download your Snap, edit it and REPOST it. You can upload photos and video’s from your own media file (!). This means if you want to, you can use your holiday pics from last year and fake a new one.

“So I’m sticking to camp 2”

Hey dear Snapchat team, wasn’t that your unique selling point? My Instagram feed is filled with semi ‘spontaneous’ moments, but weren’t you guys all about the truth? The here and now. The reason you guys were one of the more personal platforms. I was this close to hopping on the bandwagon…

So I’m sticking to camp 2.
