Water so nice to know
These 7 things you didn't know about perfumes
The world of scents is a wonderful world in itself. It's much more than just holding your nose over a bottle, sniffing a bit, and enthusiastically spraying around. Believe me, that ruins a scent. There's so much love in a bottle, years of knowledge go into it, and most ingredients are chosen with the utmost care. And to appreciate that gold in a bottle even more, I've lined up some facts & figures for you. Bet that during your next spray session, you'll look at that glass bottle in your hand quite differently?
1. Hydrating is a must
It always has been, but if you want to enjoy your scent doubly, you need to hydrate extra. Scents perform much better on well-hydrated skin and last much longer. Want to enjoy even more, more, MORE? Then of course you choose a body lotion from the same fragrance line. Sounds redundant, and it is. So double enjoyment.
2. Rubbing wrists?
A no-go. If you have the habit of rubbing your wrists together to let the scent come out nicely, then you're doing it wrong. You're actually killing the top notes right away, and then it's not going to be a long and happy life that you will have together. In fact, you're ruining all the gold you just sprayed on your skin in a minute.
3. The optimal scent
You don't have to spray yourself all over to enjoy a scent. If you want to enjoy it extremely, you should spray it on the so-called pulse points. Click here to find out what those lovely spots are.
4. You need four tons of roses to grow one kilo of rose oil
Indeed, that's a lot. That's 1.6 million (MIL-LION!) roses from which you can make about a hundred bottles of perfume. Then you immediately understand the price tag attached to some perfumes.
5. Exciting names have an exciting origin
Ambergris is one of the rarest ingredients used in fragrances. Where does this rare substance come from? From the intestines of whales. Yuck. But combine it with a flower and other lovely ingredients, and it suddenly has a completely different scent (and it no longer reminds you of whale vomit. Yuck.). Then there's civet, which comes from the glands of a special cat (the civet cat). And if you ask me about musk, you can already guess that it's not a fruit hanging from a tree. It may not be the nicest thing to know, but just know that it is so incredibly prepared and refined that it becomes completely pure again, and you really want to embrace the scent. Some things you just shouldn't want to know beforehand.
6. You don't smell it yourself, but someone else definitely does
Your own nose gets used to the scent you wear daily. So the first time you smell it, but then it fades a bit. I've heard that you smell a scent for about eight seconds, but someone else can enjoy it for about twenty seconds. You get used to your scent, but you also have to be careful with that. Someone else can still smell you, so don't suddenly spray a whole bottle over yourself. That would be a huge waste, and I don't know if you'll achieve the effect you actually want.
7. Every scent can work out ten times differently
Does your friend have a nice scent and do you sniff around her all day? Then don't immediately think that scent will also suit you wonderfully. Due to the pH value of your skin, it can turn out very differently, and it could be a big miss for you.
