TAKING BIG STEPS IN 4 INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES

When I look back on the past years, you could say that I haven't stood still much.

Seven years ago, I started my own little business in wedding and event planning. I put a lot of love and energy into it from day one, got a lot back (okay, also quite a bit of stress and nagging because women getting married can be at their worst), but still, something gnawed at me.

Whether this was it and whether I wanted to stay in this city for my whole life, those kinds of things that you probably recognize. I threw away all the business cards of people who could be important to me with the old paper, packed my things in moving boxes, and before I knew it, I flew to America to let a new chapter of my life happen there. I even met my love there. Just in the driveway. Happiness is sometimes closer than you think.

More than once, I was asked; Simone, how do you dare to give everything up? What if you don't get a job later? And you have such a nice little house?

More than once, I was asked; Simone, how do you dare to give everything up.

Of course, I was scared to wave goodbye to my business back then, to pack my life into boxes, and to seek adventure on the other side of the ocean with just one suitcase.

But the world didn't collapse (I didn't think that would happen), I found jobs, a house, and thus also a love. Even when my relationship fell apart, I stayed upright. Okay, I spent many days lying on the couch, but there was a moment when I bounced back. I grabbed my suitcase, returned to familiar Maastricht where I started dreaming about a new adventure. That came in the form of a phone call asking if I had ever heard of Amayzine...

I can imagine that you also want to quit that job / break up with your partner / go on a world trip / write that book but are afraid that you will leave something behind and nothing will come in its place. Are you in that situation? Then think of these four things that will give you a push in the back.

1. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger

Think in worst-case scenarios. What if you don't find a new job and you gave up this job? What will you do then? You can always work in a restaurant and earn your money. If you think about that, how you can keep your head up in the toughest situation and know that it will work out, you are safe.

2. In order to discover new oceans you first have to lose sight of the shore

If you still have one foot in that relationship or are still sitting in that office where you are not entirely happy, it is very difficult to think about what you really want. Start saving, book a long trip, take the time to evaluate the past while lying on a beach chair, think about what made you happy, what you were good at, and create a new future wish.

3. What if I fall? But darling, what if you fly?

It is terrifying to leave your security behind. Terrifying, because maybe you will lose everything. But maybe you will fly, that amazing job will come your way, or that great love. Right now, you are apparently not happy anyway, so what do you have to lose?.

4. Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans

It seems like a small contrast to what I wrote above, but it is not so. You can want to plan and hold on to the safe security of your medium relationship, your boring (but stable) job, and the environment you know. That is no guarantee for a safe and calm life. What if you get fired, or that man runs off with someone else (your best friend, for example, or the neighbor), and then it has all been a waste of time. So go after your dreams. At least you tried.
