Fun & Famous
In addition to a monthly pearl and the beautiful Vogue The Book and Vogue Man, a new Vogue baby is coming to the shelf: Vogue Living. Because we are particularly happy with anything Vogue, a digital duet with editor-in-chief Karin Swerink.
Karin, your Thank God It’s Friday moment, is it today at 5:00 PM when your party starts or at 8:00 PM when everything is over and you can kick off your heels in a corner?
“That’s afterwards. In the bath with a glass of red wine. But I’m really looking forward to the party for now!”
You are fashion, but I think you are also very much about living. Was Vogue Living a personal wish?
“More than a wish. Actually, a dream. Vogue is such a lovely magazine that we want to create as much as possible. That’s why we seize every opportunity to expand the family We see more and more fashion brands doing something with living. I wanted to create something about personal living, a magazine that focuses more on life and love for your home. Collecting, decorating, enjoying reading, dreaming, and inspiring.”
I am really searching for a good source of inspiration regarding interiors. Will Vogue Living fill that gap for me?
“Absolutely, I’m actually sure that you will find something on every page that makes you happy. A lamp, a pattern, a chair, a color… Anything is inspiration. You actually want to tear out every page until you decide to keep the magazine as a whole forever.”
Let’s talk about your weekend. I know there will definitely be fresh flowers on the table tomorrow, but what else? What does it look like? Will there be some nice tidying up in the house and garden?
“Certainly! With the dogs to the beach, biking with the little one, cooking deliciously, and sitting in the garden, trimming the roses a bit… Isn’t it going to be nice weather?”
What does the editor-in-chief of Vogue like to listen to?
“Everything by Anouk is on repeat.”
And what’s on the nightstand?
“My iPhone and when I wake up a large coffee brought by my love.”
Does your Sunday look different than your Saturday?
“No, I’m just going to continue doing nothing and tidying up, having lunch with family, and perhaps at the end of the day cleaning up the email for Monday (everything goes into ‘draft’, I don’t want to tire anyone with it yet).”
Imagine, earthly matters like money, time difference, and travel time do not exist. What does your dream weekend look like? Breakfast in Paris, shopping in New York..?
“Very early (7 AM) a picnic breakfast on the beach in Cannes (preferably with the whole family including the dogs), feeling the day warm up, the Mediterranean sparkling and shining, waves gently lapping… Nothing is better than that. So lots of sun and a day that can go in any direction.”
Finally: what time does the alarm go off on Monday? Or does a fresh mother not need an alarm?
“At half past 6 with an alarm, the little one likes to sleep in a bit…”
Vogue Living will be in stores from April 21.
