Sabrina made big news this week. She is stopping with afterDRK (one of the most read fashion sites in the Netherlands) and is going to do something else. We wanted to know everything about this: how it came to be, how she feels, and what her new plans are. Sabrina, take it away…

Sabrina tell us, it was an exciting week for you, I think. On Wednesday you announced you were stopping with afterDRK. Was this something you had been thinking about for a long time?

‘Super exciting! I hardly slept in Paris because I knew this bomb would drop on Wednesday. It is something I have been thinking about for a much longer time. Secretly, I had been working on new plans since I was in LA for three months in 2014, but back then it was still completely unclear to me what it should be. That took time, and a few months ago everything slowly fell into place.’

Why was now the right time?

‘I think that now, compared to when I started afterDRK eight years ago, I know much better what I want and I have also become a bit wiser. In my opinion, there is now a big shift happening in the fashion world. I hear a lot of girls talking about new plans, and you better be quick to jump on that. I was really ready for something new myself. There are so many bloggers, and we were all doing a bit of the same thing. Personally, there was no creativity left for me, and I noticed that I was increasingly falling into the clichés that generate the most likes on Instagram (think selfies, the cactus on the marble table, the avocado toast, the view from the balcony, etc.). That ultimately has nothing to do with fashion, and that is ultimately why I started blogging.’

Did you shed a tear over it?

‘Haha, to be very honest? No. I do find it a bit sad to sort of ‘throw away’ the old content, but I keep it all on an external hard drive. It’s a bit like an old relationship: you keep and cherish the memories (not all, not always), but you also have to make room for something new.’

And what are your new plans? We want to know everything!

‘I can't reveal everything yet, but intoIT magazine (http://intoit-magazine.com/) will be an online platform focused on high fashion. It will actually be a collection of thoughts and projects. The site will be fully photography-based, with which I hope to shine a small light on this world that has now become about ‘oversharing’ in a creative way. Although I will certainly be in the picture from time to time, you won't quickly see a ‘standard’ outfit photo of me, and it won't be a collection of self-promotion. We are collaborating with creatives from all over the world, starting with stylist Hannah van Well, who took a disposable camera with her to Paris Fashion Week, and the content is now being developed, of which we will publish a part. The fun part is that she doesn’t really know what she is submitting, and the development of these photos takes some time, which forces me to slow down a bit.’

What will be the difference between afterDRK and intoIT magazine? Will you still be writing?

‘The biggest difference is that text will almost completely disappear. The focus will be entirely on photography, and for me personally, the biggest difference will be that I want to do everything my way and not otherwise. It’s not about the number of likes; for me, it’s about being proud of what I produce, and then appreciation will come naturally.’

‘I hear a lot of girls talking about new plans, and you better be quick to jump on that.’

When does your weekend start and what are your plans?

‘Friday evening! I’m definitely going to dance a bit to celebrate the announcement of intoIT magazine. During Fashion Week, I hardly ever go out, and between New York and Paris, I had that annoying flu, so I haven’t danced in a while. The rest of the weekend, I will probably be working on my boyfriend's new boat and shooting content for intoIT magazine.’

An ideal Sunday, anything goes, what does it look like?

‘It definitely starts with an hour of turning over and then a big breakfast with my boyfriend and friends in a cozy little place nearby. In the afternoon, a bit of wandering/tourist playing in my own city or spontaneously driving to a city I’ve never been to. In the evening, I find it ideal to pretend it’s Saturday and drink wine with friends until the late hours and play games. 30 seconds for the win.’

What kind of music do you play on the weekend?

‘My Friday night definitely starts with R&B (no shame), and the rest of the weekend I try to keep that going a bit in combination with my playlist (https://open.spotify.com/user/sonymusicnl/playlist/7ir2G4LONdw9or8K8XVpgz), although my boyfriend sometimes takes over. He is more into techno.’

Where do you get your inspiration from?

‘I love Instagram and Pinterest, and I save most of my ideas there. Although I also really like magazines like Self Service and The Gentlewoman, and – this sounds very cheesy – a good beach walk without a phone or internet or music can also help sometimes.’

What time does the alarm go off on Monday?

‘At 7 o'clock. Due to all the traveling lately, I’ve been a bit rhythm-less, but with the whole transition from afterDRK to intoIT magazine, the alarm goes off early this week, and I’m trying to hold on to that on Monday.’
