A journalist who was so good behind the camera that she was put in front of it. Jojanneke has just started her new job at EenVandaag and that means she is busy, but does she relax a bit on the weekend? Just asking.
Tell me, how was your week?
‘Busy! It was the second week at my new job at EenVandaag. There I present and create the new item Nieuwstrend from Monday to Thursday. That item is about the development of the news throughout the day. Current events that dominate the internet, but also radio, TV, and foreign media. So I’m on top of it all day long. And in the meantime, I still have my two lovely little monsters who need a lot of cuddles.’
When do you kick off the weekend?
‘Thursday evening. After my mindfulness course, yes.’
And what does that look like? What’s in your glass?
‘An evening out for dinner with my husband. Looking deeply into each other's eyes and talking about something other than diapers. I’ll be drinking a good old Bloody Mary.’
What do you do on Saturday?
‘Then it’s family time. First a little dancing in the kitchen, then breakfast with croissants from the oven and off to Amsterdam's children's theater De Toverknol with the kiddies. And if the moods are good, a nice brunch at Staring at Jacob.’
Is there cooking going on? And is it healthy?
How do you stay so incredibly slim?
‘On the weekend, I enjoy cooking extensively, which doesn’t happen during the week. A nice fish from the oven, a lovely mushroom risotto… And I do throw in a lump of butter. Breastfeeding has melted away the pregnancy pounds, and my kids take a lot from my plate.’
What kind of music do you play on the weekend?
‘The Tallest Man on Earth, Billie Holiday, and Schubert.’
Two children and a hardworking man.
So here comes the classic question: how do you do it all?
‘I sometimes wonder that myself.’
If money and time difference are not an issue,
what is your dream weekend?
‘Waking up in New York. Running through Williamsburg and also a bit through the Hasidic neighborhood. Eating bagels in Queens. Biking through Central Park and the West Village. Cupcakes. Going to a jazz cellar in Harlem. Eating at La Bodega Negra. Dancing at The Box. And the next day brunching at Pastis.’
What time does the alarm go off on Monday?
‘At 8:15 AM.’
