THE 12 COOLEST INTERIOR TRENDS FOR 2017
Before you read about what can actually be on your wishlist for next year, here’s a brief summary of things that seem to have had their best time. Take the pineapple, copper items, white marble, light wood, fake Eames chairs, everything-decorated-in-one-style, and the Scandinavian style. By the way, don’t panic if you see something here that you’re still wild about, because (and this is indeed quite complicated) the most important development in interior design is that it’s all about personal choices and personal style. Forget the protocol. Embrace your own instinct.
1. Greenery is according to Pantone really, really important starting next year, particularly a very remarkable light green. A color that brings refreshment, that change, that sets a new swing. It takes some getting used to, but then you have something (plus: it goes with much more than you think. In nature, for example, you never hear a flower complain if it turns out to be next to a green patch of grass).
2. Headboards (so those headboards at the end of your bed) are also totally the bomb. They make your bed instantly current. Choose a tufted headboard, a vintage rattan piece for a nice boho style, or go for green velvet.
3. Cork we will see a lot on a small scale, but also as a base material in a living room or kitchen. It fits perfectly with your indoor garden.
4. Desert chic, is the desert feel, but then luxurious.
5. Souvenir vibe is all about the combination of all the souvenirs you’ve collected. We see many special fabrics, cushions, and rugs from abroad, such as kilims. It also fits with the desert chic style, and even a bit in a nineties grunge atmosphere.
6. Deep purple/deep blue will definitely linger a bit longer and there is a lot of play with colors that hold somewhere in the ‘middle’. Tip: unpacking with such a color is scary, but definitely worth it. This staircase is directly out of a fairy tale.
7. Ash blue is also a popular color next year, and especially seen on accessories like candle holders, cushions, and walls. Here and there a touch of cool = cool.
8. From wood to hexagon. The transition between a wooden floor and a stone floor was previously indicated with a clear strip, but starting next year we will make it a very creative party. Floors that playfully transition from wood to hexagon tiles, for example. Love!
9. Terracotta will eventually (!) take over from marble, and also from the new Escher tile. Admittedly: you have to dare a bit, but it’s just like leggings. Eventually, you will find it beautiful, haha. Oh, and pay close attention to how you do it, because the big danger when applying terracotta is that you create an ugly new-build-farmhouse feel. Be creative, trust your feelings.
10. Gold mustard seed is the answer or actually the golden combination with, um, gold. I especially find it a beautiful color for blankets and cushions. An incredibly inspiring color that holds the middle between gold and mustard seeds. But you probably guessed that already.
11. Olive color you will see especially in kitchens and on cabinets. So if you were looking for a cool color to spice up a boring cabinet, go for a dark, matte olive color. Just be careful to keep that dark brown wooden cabinet dark brown, because in 2017 and beyond it will definitely revolve around dark wood.
12. Art Deco New Style is really becoming big. That fifties, sixties, and seventies stuff is still a thing, but art deco is the tip of the moment. Browse around, look for something cool from the twenties, and possibly give your new find a thick coat of paint and then be especially grateful for this top tip.
That’s it again, and do let me know if you want more hot interior tips!
