The dress, yes, THE dress

In other words, the wedding dress, the dress that you will only wear once in your life on the big day (because if the marriage is not forever, then you will approach it completely differently next time). Suppose you have been asked and you are going to get married, then the first thing you think about is: WHAT SHOULD I WEAR? Of course, a location still needs to be found and a hundred thousand other things need to be arranged, but once you know what you are wearing, the rest is easy.

So step 1.

What do I want?

Create a Pinterest board or something similar for this, gather everything you find beautiful. This way you have a bit of an idea of what you are looking for.

Step 2.

What looks good on me?

Know what your strengths and weaknesses are and focus mainly on your strengths. If you are a bit rounder and have a nice full décolleté, choose a dress that emphasizes this. If you have beautiful toned arms, go for a sleeveless dress (if you don't have nice arms, definitely don't do this). How often do I not see brides with red bumps on their arms or just not nice arms wearing a sleeveless wedding dress. If you have beautiful legs, choose a dress with a high slit. If you have a narrow waist (and maybe some sturdy thighs), go for a princess dress with an accent on the waist and a wide skirt. If you are not too tall but slim, choose a fitted dress without too many frills.

Step 2b.

Maybe it’s also handy to make a list of weaknesses so you know what you should not wear.

If you have very wide hips, choose a dress that falls loosely over your hips, the mermaid shape is not for you in this case. If you have small breasts, do not choose a dress that emphasizes your décolleté, but rather a high-necked example flatters you. If you have short legs, make sure your waistline sits a bit higher so they appear longer. Strapless is, in my opinion, the most desired wedding dress model, but really, believe me: it looks good on almost no one.

”Choose a few stores you want to go to and enjoy trying on dresses”

Step 3.

Set a budget for yourself (and stick to it), because really, a wedding costs a lot of money. If you know what you can spend, you won’t be tempted by more expensive dresses.

Step 4.

Choose a few stores you want to go to and enjoy trying on dresses (keep your list handy). Bring someone with you who you enjoy shopping with and who dares to be honest with you. You can also check with designers if they have a small wedding collection, because you will surely find very beautiful dresses there that are not so traditional and made of soft silk. That’s how I bought my dress once in Milan at Alberta Ferretti.

Step 5.

Once you have the dress, don’t forget to get perfectly fitting underwear, because if that doesn’t fit well, the whole idea of the dream dress is gone. It’s ideal to try it on at home and wear your dress over it, so you can see the result right away (invisible, no bumps and lumps).

Step 6.

After the dress, you now need to look for the right shoes, jewelry, makeup, and hairdo.
