THE VIDEO THAT WILL CHANGE THE OLYMPIC GAMES
Okay, I want to share something with you. This video has gone viral this week and I am incredibly happy about it. It’s about this: the Chinese swimmer Fu Yuanhui addresses a topic that is quite a taboo in the sports world, namely being on your period. During her 4 x 100 meter race, she swam not as expected. So it was a bad race. It is customary for every athlete to explain to the camera why it didn’t go well. One starts poorly, another makes a silly mistake during a turn, and yet another is disappointed, cries, and can’t really say anything meaningful. So Fu also prepared herself for an explanation.
With (literally) pain in her stomach, she speaks to the reporter (who is very sweet by the way). And what is the case? “I got my period last night,” Fu tells.
HOPPA, no one has ever dared to say that in the sports world. And especially in China, that is an incredibly big taboo. No athlete ever speaks openly about being on their period, so kudos. Finally. Fu's response is immediately encouraged internationally and especially by China. And I haven't even mentioned the reporter's reaction. So heartwarming… Well, just watch.
