THESE TIPS MAKE GETTING UP MUCH EASIER
So you never have to hit snooze again
Here at the editorial office, they all think I'm a bit crazy. While half of them are still rubbing the sleep from their eyes and standing in line for another dose of caffeine, I bounce into the kitchen wide awake to pour my breakfast into a bowl. By the time I arrive at the office, I've already had half a day. A nice hour of exercise, preparing breakfast, packing snacks, and off I go, cycling through the city.
Snoozing? Fortunately, that doesn't exist in my vocabulary. Do you turn over four times in the morning before rolling out of bed? Don't do it, girlfriend. When you're woken up and then doze off a few more times, your body gets confused. Your body is awake, and when you fall asleep again, all the hormones that help you get up are disrupted by the hormones that help you fall asleep. How do you get rid of that snooze addiction? I'm going to tell you.
1. Go for a nice tune
Of course, we hate that damn alarm clock. Maybe a wake-up light is worth considering. Or let Giel wake you up. Getting up to a nice tune is still much more pleasant than that annoying ringing. But to be fair: the alarm clock is and remains your enemy.
2. Set the alarm as late as possible
My alarm goes off at 6:40 AM on weekdays because I know I have to get out of bed immediately. But actually, I always wake up a little earlier automatically, and that's nice. The advantage of setting your alarm as late as possible? This way, you get all your sleep from the night, and you have to get up or you'll be late.
“6:42 brush teeth, get dressed, and go.”
3. Make sure your alarm clock is not within reach
When you place your alarm clock next to you, the chance of snoozing is much greater. Make sure you have to get out of bed to turn it off. The chances are high that you won't dive back into bed.
4. Ensure regularity
Make sure you go to bed around the same time every night and also get up around the same time. Your body will get used to this, and before you know it, you won't need that alarm clock at all and will wake up naturally.
5. Prepare a nice breakfast the night before
Make sure you have a good reason to get up. For example, prepare a nice breakfast the night before (like my favorite) so that you can't wait to dig in in the morning. This way, you can also stay in bed a little longer.
6. Daylight
Why waking up in the summer is much easier than in the winter? Because we have more daylight in the summer. So from now on, leave the curtains a little open or try a wake-up light.
Yes, and last but not least; I can only recommend hitting the gym for an hour early in the morning. Because this way, not only can you shamelessly flop on the couch in the evening, but you also stay full of energy all day.
6:40 AM: alarm
6:41 AM: phew, EARLY
6:42: brush teeth, get dressed, and go.
It works, really!
