Fun & Famous
Things I have learned from Disneyland Paris
It's over. The adventure for which the anticipation was so great that we woke up every day with the phrase “Only so many more nights until…”. Luckily, I took 337 photos and gained many wise lessons that I will now share with you. If you go, as you read this, you will have so much more fun.
1. This is the most important tip you will receive
Sleep in the hotel. It has a thousand advantages. First of all, it is a very spacious ultra-luxury hotel. With ironing boards, bath slippers, shower foam in Mickey Mouse-shaped bottles, and the softest bedding I have ever slept under. It is also a hotel where even the wildest child can do no harm. I assume you are going there with children. Or not, that’s possible too. Confession: I had already been to Disneyland twice before I had children, sooooo.
But that hotel. If you sleep there, you have access to the park between 08:00 and 10:00 in the morning, while it is still completely closed to the rest of the world. That’s already mega advantage number 1.
Furthermore, the hotel has a swimming pool that is exactly as you wish it to be when you are rich and famous later. So you can go swimming when it gets too crowded in the park. I did that and I really enjoyed it.
2. Lunch and dine in the restaurants
When people say that you can only find fried food in Disneyland, don’t believe them. I actually ate very well. Think langoustines, shrimp, a perfectly pink piece of lamb, and so on. That is in the restaurants, one of the hotel (I have no shares), but you will also find several in the park.
”Let the child in you come out”
3. Lunch with the stars
At certain restaurants (for example, Auberge de Cendrillon), Disney characters walk around live. In the hotel restaurant, there are cartoon characters (Mickey, Minnie, Pinocchio, Pluto, Goofy) and in the Auberge de Cendrillon, the princesses. Cinderella, Belle, and Snow White. Name it and they are there. They dance, talk to you, take all the time for the better selfie, and sign the special menu that is immediately a coloring book. You all get a (non-alcoholic) welcome cocktail, and then your children have a great time while you simply enjoy a fantastic lunch. With an alcoholic treat on the side.
4. This is all not weird at all
Women in their forties with headbands with Minnie Mouse ears. Not weird at all. Big guys with a high Goofy hat, what are you talking about. Hopping down Main Street, perfectly normal. Let the child in you come out. No one will have a problem with that.
5. It is so safe
Your bag is checked, you have to go through detection gates, and there is a horde of security at the entrance. A bit intimidating, but you know that everything is fine in the park. And even on the carousel, you have to wear a seatbelt.
6. It is a workout
We walked fourteen kilometers. Without even realizing it.
So if you go, I think you will have a great time.
