Wat draagt een hip persoon naar een bruiloft?

Okay, so last Friday I had a wedding. And I had NO idea what to wear. Finding a suitable outfit can be a struggle. Luckily I devised this checklist to help me out. Thanks to our shopping editor Lilian. Oh, and below you can find my outfit top five. Who knows, maybe there’s something in it for you.

1. Stay close to yourself! Before you know it you’ll be trapped in a frenetic quest for The Perfect Outfit. The result is usually an odd, exaggerated or super standard outfit that won’t even thrill a blind person. Or you for that matter. The tip is to stay close to yourself or else you’re going to feel super uncomfortable the entire day (and exude that feeling) which will result in an AWFUL day.

2. Don’t go searching for an outfit when you’re panicked because it will lead you to weird stores and brands that you’ve never been to or heard of before. The odds of you heading home with something that doesn’t scream you are high. You neeeever shop at that store, so why the heck did you do it now?

3. Where is the sex? You don’t have to be timid. A low neckline or a bare leg (or two) is okay. Although – and this is where it gets complicated – it shouldn’t be too much. You’re not going on a night out with friends, you’re going to a wedding.

4. Be aware of your undergarments, especially if you’re going for something off-shoulder or cut-out. A fun detail and all, but just remember that this look requires more thought, especially when it comes to your lingerie.

5. By the way, the cut-out idea is a great one. There are plenty of basic dresses with a cut-out detail that adds something hip to a classic look.

”Don’t overdo the idea of something ‘festive’ because you’re going somewhere ‘festive’.”

6. Don’t overdo the idea of something ‘festive’ because you’re going somewhere ‘festive’. There are people (I won’t name any names) who go a little overboard when it comes down to a wedding outfit. They’ll cover themselves with long gloves, hats, necklaces, bracelets and earrings. A walking Christmas tree so to speak.

7. Stay as far away from skin colored tights as possible. Even if it’s ‘a little chilly’ outside. The most awkward thing about skin colored tights is that the color is never accurate: it’s kind of like wearing the wrong color foundation. Plus, it also has something elderly about it. And don’t think you don’t see it, because you do. Just so you know.

8. Think outside the box. A suit is fine. In our current day and age there are plenty of fun fits (flared or pencil), cool prints and special special materials. If you’re going to go for a wider trouser fit, then make sure you pair it with a feminine blouse and a fitted jacket.

9. A tip you hear often which really is true: black is not a good idea (think in terms of the depression meter) and colors that are too light aren’t a great idea either because then the color will be too close to the color of the dress of the bride.
