Wat te doen dit weekend
by Theo Bakana
Hear who is knocking there children and there is a horse in the hallway, those are the theme songs for this weekend. Not up to date yet? I'll catch you up and tell you where you need to be. Of course, it’s not a must, but it’s definitely where you want to go.
So there is a horse in the hallway
The listeners coming from below the rivers understand why. People from up there understand a little less, they think: a horse in the hallway, how is that possible? Well, it is of course one of the most famous carnival chatterboxes. Now you might think carnival is always in February? That’s correct. Only today is the 11th of the 11th, which means St. Martin. So you can stop by the neighbors to see if they have any treats at home. Or you can travel south to experience the kick-off of the carnival season there. And that seems to be a lot of fun, according to Adeline*. You can hang out under the tap with her in Krabbegat tonight. Maybe use your Google Maps when you’re on your way?
Hear who is knocking there children
From the 11th of the 11th you can immediately move on to the next tradition, because where I told you last week that it’s almost Christmas (still 44 days!) tomorrow the good saint will already delight us again. With his black Pete men or how was that again? Anyway, starting tomorrow you can put out your shoe again and yell your best version of Sinterklaas kapoentje down the chimney. The official entry takes place in Maassluis. But you can actually run into one of his helper Sinterklaases in any city. Be good, okay, otherwise you might end up in the sack.
Enough to keep you entertained this weekend, right?
Aren't you so traditional, but rather looking for the coolest new hotspots? Then I have the perfect activity for you. Tonight is the opening of Borrl Kitchen and from tomorrow you can go there every day for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. What you definitely have to try is the apple pie, because it’s really the best there. You can find Borrl Kitchen on Plantage Kerklaan near Artis and the Plantage, three flies in one go.
If you have a hot date this weekend and you want to do something that really impresses, go to the ADAM tower. I always find the ferry quite nice (if you’re not in a hurry). But on the roof of the tower, the A’DAM Lookout, you not only have a view over all of Amsterdam but also the highest swing in Europe. Called Over the Edge. The swing is at the edge of the roof, so no fear of heights. But you will never forget that. You can immediately squeeze your date's hand, the ice will be broken right away.
Enough to keep you entertained this weekend, right? See you all next week. Until then!
