Wat te doen dit weekend
by Theo Bakana
My dearest colleague Annick took over from me last week, but today I'm taking the reins back into my own hands. I've been searching, casting lines, and hitting the streets to bring you all the fun for the weekend. So brace yourselves, here it comes.
Shopping shopping shopping
Maybe you're currently recovering from all your Black Friday-purchases. If that's the case, you better scroll to the next tip, because I'm throwing even more discounts your way. It's sample sale season. At a sample sale, the surplus clothing is sold for a bargain. And no, it's really not the case that you'll be stuck with old junk. It's actually the chance to score items from your favorite brand for prices well below retail. The question remains: where should you go? At Amayzine HQ around the corner, for example, you'll find the sample sale of Samsøe & Samsøe. On the Brouwersgracht in Amsterdam, you can shop the coolest suits from Amatør and on Ruysdaelstraat, you'll find pieces from ST.studio and SuperTrash.
This is the name of the new exhibition at the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, curated by Hubert de Givenchy. Hubert was one of the most famous and greatest fashion designers of the 20th century and worked for Dior and Balenciaga. His muse? Audrey Hepburn. Besides their professional relationship, the two were also good friends, and part of the exhibition is dedicated to that. Hubert has selected a large part of his creations, with pieces that have never been shown to the public before. We will definitely be lining up tomorrow. If you don't have time this weekend, no worries. The exhibition is on display until March 26, 2017, at the Gemeentemuseum.
Have you fully embraced the cultural vibe after the exhibition in The Hague? Then you need to quickly head to Amsterdam, because this weekend marks the 5th Amsterdam Art Weekend. There has already been a lot to see in the past few days, but this weekend it reaches its peak. More than 50 different art venues have joined in. The program consists of exhibitions, tours, and film screenings. I'm going to take a look at the robots in the Stedelijk Museum myself, but if that's too technical for you, check out here the program. There's definitely something fun in there for you too.
Is there still some dancing going on?
After all, it's the weekend. So the answer is of course: yes! But where? At Bar Broker, for example. A big advantage: this bar has no fixed drink prices, which is handy after a weekend full of Black Fridays and sample sales. The bar is an idea from Tosti Creative, festival organization Brouwerij de Eeuwige Jeugd, and JAJEM. Together they were ready for something new and came up with this temporary bar, where various factors can influence the prices. So if you want to enjoy a nightcap with your sample purchases on Saturday, you know where to go.
Seems like there's plenty to do, I'm going to uncork the bottle. Tips are always welcome and send them to theo@amayzine.com. Until next weekend, ajeto.
