Happy & Healthy
Tomorrow is Easter (read here just a little about what exactly Easter is) and that means for many of us: traveling to the parents or in-laws for an extensive breakfast, lunch, or brunch. I always find it a bit Christmas-like, with the whole family around a festive table, but unlike Christmas, Easter often has nice weather and you hear chirping birds.
Suppose you are organizing an Easter event yourself, then I have some inspiration for you for treats to fill the table. Even better is if you can join others. Of course, you can't arrive empty-handed. I’ll give you some ideas to make a good impression, especially when it comes to your in-laws. But hey, your own mother deserves to be spoiled a bit too.
- Bike to the best pastry shop in town and buy the most delicious real Easter eggs. For example, go to Arnold Cornelis or Vam Avezaath-Beune if you are in Amsterdam. You really can't go wrong there.
- Suggest bringing something for lunch. “I know where you can buy the best Easter bread, shall I take care of that?”
“It's a bit wrong, also a bit grandma and a bit old-fashioned, but very funny”
- Buy an incredibly beautiful large bouquet of flowers. And preferably from a slightly more expensive florist than that one at the station. It’s a bit of a gulp at the checkout, but the flowers last much longer and are also a lot more spectacular.
- Bring a bottle of Advocaat. It's a bit wrong, also a bit grandma and a bit old-fashioned, but very funny, I think. A dollop of whipped cream and just spoon it up.
- Bring a large bag of eggs and hide them in and around the house. It sounds a bit childish, but young and old enjoy egg hunting. Or am I the only one? Do it as a surprise. Showing initiative is something every mother-in-law likes, I think.
- Do you have one or know someone with a Polaroid camera? Bring it along! Take fun photos. Lilian even suggested that you could stick a nice Easter frame around them. Where you can have that done is a question for everyone.
- Buy a nice tablecloth. Make sure it's timeless and not with a too busy print, because someone might not find that very nice quickly. If you choose a nice one, there's a chance that the cloth will be used immediately and that it will be pulled out of the closet every year at Easter. Good impression!
