TO IBIZA?
These types you can encounter there

You probably think that it’s all just hip and happening on the party island of the Balearics. Well, it really is, but not everywhere. If you happen to book a little wrong (like I did during my first time), you might find yourself among the drunken English who prefer to sip beer from a belly button and spend their days singing karaoke. Read on and be warned…
1. The Corendon type
You didn’t expect that, did you? But they are really there. I stumbled upon a little bay in Portinatx and I was there, believe it or not, with a menu in four languages in my hands. Further down, a hotel band was playing Guantanamera by Jose Feliciano.
2. The yogis
It remains a funny combination. An island where left-wing pill poppers bounce out of the DC 10 at noon and on the other side left-leaning yogis who prefer to wrap their mobile phones in aluminum foil (because of radiation) are mumbling ’Namasté‘ while watching the sunrise.
3. The hippies
They were the first to be there and they are still there. They walk barefoot or in sandals, their calves (that’s really an Ibiza trend) or upper arms are tattooed, they are full of piercings and consider armpit hair a statement. However, they have become wise enough to multiply their prices by ten. Hey, if we come to disturb the peace of the island, they might as well benefit a bit more from it.
4. The Estelles
I love Estelle, that said, but Ibiza is a magnet for the shiny people. Gordon, my dear Fred van Leer, Estelle of course, John Ewbank, Erik de Zwart, Chantal Bles… Nice ‘watch’ on the wrist, boat under the butt and just chill.
5. Party people
They are of the type ‘sleep during the day’ and come out of their holes around snack time. They have rented a bed at the beach for the whole day, but first they have to chill at home for an hour. An hour at the beach, some food at Bambuddha Ibiza or KM5 and then off to the club…
6. People like me
People who once belonged to one of these groups but now have children. By being on the island, you see some friends from the past, some funny and shiny types, people who inspire you and places where you can shop well. Even if you’re not fully participating anymore, you’re still pretty damn close.
