Why do we kiss with our eyes closed?

When you are kissing someone your eyes almost automatically close. And when you see people kissing and one of them has their eyes open, you always think something unkind. Or at least, I do. Something along the lines of: ‘disinterested jerk’. Why is that?

Well, my friends from Science have released another fun study and come up with answers. Polly Dalton and Sandra Murphy, two psychologists, conducted research and published it in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance. And something that has such a ridiculously complicated name must speak the truth, right?

It boils down to the fact that it is extraordinarily complicated for our little brain to focus on two intense senses at the same time. As in: when we want to enjoy a good kiss, whether or not with tongue, we need to shut ourselves off as much as possible from the rest of the world.

Aaaah, so that's how it is! The research was done with something involving word searches and vibrations and other complicated stuff, but it’s about the outcome: when we kiss we need all our concentration for that and we can't use outside noise. There, that’s clear again. Happy kissing!
