WHY EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE ON NEW CHALLENGES
Until not even two weeks ago, I worked as a lifestyle journalist. For years, it was the coolest job ever for me. I got to write about fashion, went to events, interviewed some stars here and there, and almost always worked from home. Hello, from HOME. You understand that I was usually typing on the couch in my bathrobe. Living the good life.
After a few years, my role suddenly changed. Slowly, I began to realize that this might not suit me anymore. Exactly at that moment, as if fate was teasing me, Amayzine came my way. I think coincidence doesn't exist. Honestly, it's really scary to have to give one up for the other. But sometimes you just have to follow your heart in life. If this feels good, then why the fuck not? Have you been stuck in your position for a while? Then it's time to read through this step-by-step plan.
It's time to look for another job if...
... you are ‘done learning’.
Nothing is new for you anymore. You go on autopilot to work, perform your tasks, and go home again. And the days drag on. Long.
... you have no motivation left.
You spend the whole day on Facebook, Instagram, or even Candy Crush. Anything to avoid working. You might only be giving 40 percent. Yes, even then it's time.
... your supervisor shows no interest in you.
Without the goodwill of your supervisor, you won't get anywhere. If you're in the right place at a company, your employer trusts your work, cool projects come your way from time to time, and he/she shows interest in you. If you don't feel this at all? If difficult conversations are always done through a third party and you feel like you barely know each other? Then it's time for a new step.
Honestly, it's really scary to have to give one up for the other. But sometimes you just have to follow your heart in life.
... you work too many hours for too low a salary.
Underpaid is undervalued, and that's just a shitty feeling. Can't your employer appreciate you? Get out of there.
... your career prospects are minimal.
If you know that in your current position you will never be considered for a promotion. It's really not wrong to see if there are other companies that do offer those growth opportunities.
... you simply need something completely different.
I think I fall into this category. I had been feeling for a while that I was ready for a radical career switch. Sometimes you have those moments in life where the helm suddenly needs to turn for you. Think about this calmly, and if the feeling doesn't fade, then it's definitely time to look for another position. Very cliché but true: life is too short to do things that don't make you optimally happy. Choose for yourself. Go get them tiger!
