Why you should never meet your heroes
Without telling a long story again about why I don't want to Snapchat, I do want to share that I recently discovered why I actually find it so stupid. The thing is, I started following a lot of bloggers and other types I know from Instagram, and the more I see their snaps, the more stupid I find them.
Take Kristina Bazan, the mega-popular blogger I always thought was really nice on Instagram. She is so incredibly annoying on Snapchat that I have come to find her exceptionally stupid. She just screams into the camera about “HELLOOO YOU GUUYYSSS” with a really high annoying voice and árgh, she drives me to madness. And there are more cases like this; almost everyone turns out to be just not fun at all in moving pictures and moreover way too in love with themselves. Seriously, what is up with those shameless video selfies? I'm talking to you, yes, Chiara Ferragni.
”Seriously, what is up with those shameless video selfies?”
They always say you should never meet your heroes and they (whoever they are) are right. And meeting them digitally counts too. Your heroes always disappoint. You have hyped and cultivated them way too much, but in the end, it turns out they are just people and sometimes even stupid people.
For years, I longed for a meeting with Olivia Palermo. Those who have been reading for a while can probably still remember what a huge situation it was when I finally got to take a selfie with her in New York. It was nothing more than a selfie, because afterwards she quickly ran off again, but from colleagues in the field who have actually interviewed her, I always hear the same thing: she is really very boring. And arrogant. And just not that fun. Look, I really don't want to know all of that.
In short, soon the possibility to meet your hero(ine)? DON'T DO IT. Nothing but disappointment awaits you and it's better to keep yourself in your little dream world where he/she is still perfect. You can thank me later.
