How to

YES I DO. AND NO, YOU DON'T

things you need to know about wedding makeup

With wedding season almost upon us and that's a season that gets us all excited here at our Amayzine HQ. Nothing makes us happier than looking at wedding invites, watching the after movies and searching for our own dream wedding dresses. But let's not forget about makeup. You don't want runny mascara because of the vow induced tears or smeared lipstick after the kiss. So we've listed the do's and dont's for you. Not getting married? Keep reading; they're pretty useful for wedding guests as well.

Do's

1. Going for a trial makeup run? Wear a white tee so you'll know how the final look goes with a white outfit. You would be crazy to put on your actual wedding dress for this test, so a white tee is a good alternative. Oh, and make sure to snap a pic of the end result in broad daylight.

2. Draw attention to your eyes with your makeup, cause this is where your emotion shows best. Whether you're going for a smokey eye or a natural look, be sure to choose covering concealers and primers so the attention is drawn to your eyes only and not the bags underneath. We get that you'll hardly get any sleep the night before, but who says we have to be able to read it from your face on the day of?

3. Colour is pretty important in your beauty look. Your dress is probably white as are your shoes, so your skin can do a little compensating. This doesn't mean you should walk down the aisle as a rainbow on the loose, but you can afford to use a little more gloss on the lips and cheeks.

4. Make sure to use high end brands and products in creating the look. The last thing you want is to leave the house with the perfect makeup, only to find it running down your face once you're standing in front of the alter. Go for long wear products; from foundation to lip and eye products. Might cost a bit more, but it'll be worth it for years to come when you look back at the wedding photos.

5. Focus on the most important facial features. A flawless skin, the perfect eyebrows and sky high lashes. If that's all in place, you're good to go.

Don'ts

1. Opt for a timeless look that suits you well. Not something you'll look back on in ten years and think: dear god, what on earth came over me? So yeah, those furry nails and black lips are fun and all, but if you go through life au naturel, stick to it on your wedding day.

2. Don't leave your hair appointment to the day before your wedding. The same goes for a spray tan. I get that you want to have the best hairdo and tan possible, but what if it goes wrong? Think of wrong hair colouring or an orange glow. You do NOT want this.

3. Don't make your eye makeup too dark. It can cause shadowing that makes you look more tired than usual, or it stains and wrinkles which makes you look shabby. Can't resist a dark smokey eye? Not to worry, just make eye primer your BFF for the day. Besides your hubby.

4. Powder EVERYTHING. So not just your face, but also your arms, legs, neck and what not as well. There will be hundreds of pictures taken of you from literally every angle and you don't want to look shiny or sweaty in any of them.

5. Don't rush. Take Bobbi Brown's advice, who says you need at least 45 minutes to get the perfect makeup look. So make sure to take the time.
