The Green Monster

Relationship enemy no. 1 is jealousy. Did you know it often stems from the insecurity of the person who is jealous? Often there is no history of infidelity. Even if other women literally kiss his feet, it’s about trusting that he won’t cheat on you. If you don’t have that trust, you think he will betray you at some point. That doesn’t work for him.

No support

The man acts as if he has everything under control, because ‘as a real man, you can do everything yourself’. A wise quote says: behind every successful man stands a strong woman. Your support and approval are more important to him than he lets on. Whether he dreams of a career as a garbage man or astronaut: support him in all his choices. You don’t always have to agree. That’s love.

Chose humorless

The most desired trait in a woman for men is a sense of humor. Getting bellyaches from laughing with your girlfriend is the best thing for him. Research shows that 50% of men would end the relationship if the Misses doesn’t have (good) humor. So… do your best to laugh extra hard at his jokes.

Notorious flirt

Who doesn’t love a little flirting? In a relationship, a bit of flirting should be able to happen now and then. You get such a nice confidence boost from it. Your boyfriend will surely make flirty jokes here and there while out or at work. The big mistake is when you give a lot of attention to other men or even flirt openly while your own boyfriend is in the same room. Your flirty character was fun when you first met, but around him, you are completely for and of him.

Liar, liar, liar

A no-brainer of course. Lying is not appreciated. Emotional games, playing hard-to-get, and trying to make him jealous are not either. Better leave that to Blair Waldorf and the other Gossip Girls.

Position and public

Whatever antics he has pulled, humiliating your boyfriend in front of others is low. Really low. The same goes for ‘jokes’ about how he is built. Fun to have something to tease him with, but you must understand that the male ego is vulnerable. Belittling him in public is a serious blow below the belt.

Slob

The days of saving on shampoo and razors, letting the dishes rot for a week, and doing groceries in sweatpants and Uggs belong to your student years. Society looks the other way then. Know when it’s time to grow up – or at least try. For most men, you don’t have to live like a # queen 24/7. Makeup-free on a lazy Sunday, you are just as sexy for many men. But, eh, keep doing your best to look well-groomed and classy for him. Not just for him, by the way, especially for yourself.
