7 tips to easily live healthy

Just a quick run into the Appie to grab that cup of yogurt topped with a calorie-rich layer of granola and a super sweet layer of fruit jam (where the fruit comes from), slurping down that can of cola zero at lunch, and before you go to sleep, downing a Yakult for your immunity. Suppose you’ve decided to finally eat healthier after your vacation, then these are the eating habits you should have. Good for your health, your body, and your mind.

  1. Start the day with a cup of green tea and your daily ritual. This way, you ensure that you make more conscious choices for breakfast than when you rush straight to the kitchen.
  2. Make sure you have a bottle of water with you all day. Are you tired of that at some point? Then add a slice of lemon, cucumber, or ginger. But try to reach at least two liters.
  3. Eat slowly and consciously. Last week I already told you how important it is to chew your food well (yes, thirty-seven times). Did you miss this? Then read this…
  4. Skip that serving of rice, pasta, or slice of crusty white bread. Try to experiment with something new more often. Sweet potato, lentils, pumpkin, or buckwheat are good substitutes. They are better for digestion and keep you feeling full longer.
  5. No matter how beautiful, long, and adorned with candles my dining table is, I prefer to flop down with my plate of food on the couch in front of the TV. And with that, I set the completely wrong example. It is very important to be aware of what and how much you are eating. Sit up straight and focus on the contents of your plate instead of that new Netflix series.
  6. In that cup of morning coffee, a sugar cube plops in, and you also throw a scoop of sugar into that cup of yogurt at noon. Don’t do that anymore, okay? Not only because it makes you gain weight, especially because that sweet stuff causes a dip. If you can’t do without that sweetness, use less and opt for good sugars. Agave syrup, maple syrup, or honey are good substitutes. But again: those are also sugars, so everything in moderation.
  7. A piece of fruit is good, healthy, and tasty. But fruit also contains a mountain of sugars. So don’t go overboard on bananas, apples, and mangoes, but eat them in moderation. Looking for a healthy snack? Then dive into the vegetable section. A carrot, stalk of celery, or piece of bell pepper is ideal for an afternoon snack and also gives you a boost of vitamins.
