AMAYZINE QUESTIONNAIRE

Rens Kroes

I can hardly keep up with the books, because this woman is on fire. On June 8, Rens is releasing her fourth book again, this time it's The Party Edition. That is, recipes you can serve to make a party fun and still a bit healthy. You get it: it was high time to pull Rens' sleeve for our Amayzine Questionnaire (are you reading along, Simoon?).

Your favorite restaurant?
“Sweet Green. That's a salad bar in New York where you can create everything yourself. It really doesn't matter what you order there, everything is delicious.”

First job?

“When I was fourteen, I worked in a hotel as a cleaner. Anything to earn a little at that age, haha.”

Your new book in three words?

“Happy, festive, and of course also healthy.”

The best recipe?
If I really have to choose, I go for the sweet potato brownies. They are divine.”

Which ingredient do you use most often?
“Cashews and coconut oil. Coconut oil mainly because I use it to moisturize my body, I cook with it (unlike other oils whose composition changes after heating, coconut oil remains stable) and I sometimes add it to smoothies as an easy way to get good fats.”

What do you eat when calories are not a factor?
“Raw cheesecake, I find it tastier than the regular one. But my real guilty pleasures vary. It also depends a bit on the season.”

I have never ever…

“Had sex with a woman. And I don't necessarily have that tendency either.”

What should every woman do at least once in her life?
“Travel the world alone. I think traveling is good for everyone. You come home so open-minded and different.”

You want a ticket to?
“Brazil. I've never been there, but I hear from everyone that the vibe is great. The music, the lovely weather, dancing on the beaches; I want it all.”

Who do you swap wardrobes with à la minute?
“With the wardrobe of your contributor Carolien Spoor! Whenever I see her, I always think: god, I really need to step up my game. She triggers me in terms of fashion. Maybe I should approach her stylist, haha.”

Do you have a beauty secret?
“I use the serum from skincare brand Mahalo every night. Put it on before you go to sleep and you wake up with a soft peachy skin. The next day I ruin it again by using makeup, although I don't use that much.”

Who would you like to have coffee with?
“With my pake, my grandfather. He has unfortunately passed away now, but he was one of the first organic farmers in Friesland and I would love to ask him so much if I could. About his passion for health and about yoga in the 1950s, for example.’

No one knows this about you…
“I'm not often grumpy, but if someone keeps me from sleeping or if I can't sleep well for any reason, I really get furious and can even start shouting.”

Which item in your closet do you wear the most?
“I have a black thin cardigan from Weekday that I can literally wear everywhere, very nice.”

Your favorite sport?

“Korfball. I did it my whole youth and when I left Friesland, I stopped. Unfortunately, I don't have time for it anymore. Oh, and I also really like tennis. I still often play that with my mother when I'm in Friesland.”

Name the last three things you bought.

“A Fendi sunglasses, a watermelon, and kitchen paper.”

If your bag could talk, what would it tell us?
“What do you have in me? A vlog camera, all kinds of food, hand cream, and wet wipes. Is it really necessary to fill me up like this every day?”

What is your ultimate tip for people who want to look a bit tighter this summer?

“Look for healthy, pure food and drink plenty of water. And doing three or four sets of squats every day and repeating that sixteen times should help too.”

What else is on your bucket list?
“Live in New York again. I get a lot of energy from that city because they are further along in nutrition and the way of thinking about food. Every time I'm there, there are new products on the market that I didn't know yet. My books are also for sale there now; I think that's really cool.”

Powerfood - The Party Edition comes out on June 8 and is here already available for pre-order.
