DESTINATION DREAMLIFE
The NEW kids on the (Canggu) block
While Mount Agung continues to spew and heavy tropical rain showers are interspersed with heatwave days, life in Bali goes on. And during all this, we sit like hermits behind our laptops. Square eyes, everything. We only come outside when lured for food and coffee. Of course, hehe. Because... the Canggu Guide is almost finished! Goals to launch the book before Christmas, so we can make people happy with a piece of Bali life under the Christmas tree. We even passed up a trip to the Maldives. Yep. Tough life, huh... We hear only one thing in our heads like a mantra: ‘Must. Finish. Must. Finish. Must. Finish.’
Creating a Bali Guide is not easy, we can tell you that. We love doing it the most (not complaining), but while Instagram and blogging go quickly, with a printed book it’s really quite different, because every week new spots pop up in Bali. And we’re already at 250 spots... Can you imagine? And then we really want to check those out, because if we like it, then the spot really has to be in the Guide and then another one has to come out... We do everything ourselves, which makes it so much fun, but it also means it takes a lot of time. But luckily: the end is in sight!
Also this week we checked out the latest new Canggu food spots. Travel guide worthy? YES! So if you’re curious about these new kids on the block where you really must eat when you come to Bali, we’ve lined them up for you below.
5x the latest must eats in Bali
1. The Loft
A month ago they opened their doors on Batu Bolong (a bit further than Cafe Organic). The owners know exactly how to make a café successful, as they also have Shelter in Seminyak, above Nalu Bowls and Vida surf shop in Bondi Beach. Think: Instagrammable food, a pink wall, quotes on the floor for food footsies, and so on. A cozy all-day hangout (read: also mainly to see and be seen) for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and red velvet coffees.

2. The new Crate Cafe
If you’ve been to Bali, you’ve undoubtedly had breakfast at the tiny Crate Cafe on Batu Bolong at least a few times. Now the creative and now quite famous Australian mom (with also very successful creative kids, named Yasmin and Kai Suteja) has opened a new, mega-large location on Jalan Padang Linjong, extending from Echo Beach. It’s a kind of hipster canteen and you can now also find the Crate Gallery and Concept Store there. And of course, especially really good food for a remarkably low price. P.S.: We love their coffee!

3. TYGR Sushi
Yes, we like sushi! In Berawa (the part of Canggu before the shortcut) you can now find this minimally decorated sushi bar, with a view of the rice fields. The menu is simple and the freshly made hand rolls are to die for. Warm rice, crispy nori, and fresh filling, nomnomnom, and you can also create your own sushi bowl. Our fave? The jackfruit sushi. Delicious. It has already become our new go-to sushi spot.

4. Indigo
We are always super excited when a new concept opens that is really different from other places. Indigo is such a spot. It’s a new Japanese fine dining restaurant in Berawa, open for lunch and dinner. You can’t skip the sake and desserts! The miso soup is also really good. The real Japanese deal.

5. Luigi’s Hot Pizza
The owners of Da Maria (pizza + disco in Seminyak, our regular girls night out) have now opened Luigi’s Hot Pizza at probably the best spot in Canggu (next to Deus). Here, the Canggu crowd comes to eat pizzas and drink cocktails from around five o'clock.

And we’ll save the rest for the Canggu Guide. Can’t spoil it all!
Sea you soon!
