COPIES FOR YOUR READING LIST
Ah nice, Sunday and chill. Netflix is of course optional to turn on, but the sun is shining. Come on, get your face into the garden or just relax on a terrace, that's even better. And because it feels a little strange to binge your favorite series there with your laptop (but also because the Book Week is on the agenda this month): the best books for your reading list.
The Circle – Dave Eggers
Everything that happens must be public, privacy is theft and secrets are lies. In this book, you follow the life of Mae, who gets a job at the largest internet company in the world. It's just a little bit genius, because the story has the most bizarre twist ever. I stared at the book with my mouth open for three hours after I finished it. Says enough.
DJ – Kluun
The latest book by Kluun, this is something you and I must read on May's orders. You travel with Kluun to Las Vegas, go to Burning Man and stay in penthouses under the influence of designer drugs. Or well, Kluun's childhood friend a.k.a. Stijn, Thor. Dive into a world where everyone uses everyone and money is everything. But maybe friendship conquers all…
Judas – Astrid Holleeder
A book about our criminal Willem Holleeder. And written by his sister. You apparently read it with bated breath. Astrid reveals EVERYTHING about the dark years her brother has brought to the family. She gives flashbacks to the Heineken kidnapping, but also talks about her role as her brother's consigliere. If you're looking for me today, I'm in the garden with Astrid and Willem.
What Doesn't Kill Us – David Lagercrantz
Do you love nail-biting? Then you have of course read the Millennium trilogy by Stieg Larsson in one go. I did. On a beach bed. And I was extremely bad holiday company, I can tell you. The magnificent writer passed away in 2004, but in 2015 the sequel came from the hand of David Lagercrantz. So if you missed it; read it. Because Lagercrantz gives Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander a cybercrime to dissect.
And to further enrich your list: ‘The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared’ and ‘The Peculiar Adventures of the Genius Bomb Girl’ (both by Jonas Jonassen), ‘The First Day’ and ‘Us’ by David Nicholls. But also ‘The Rosie Project’ and the sequel by Graeme Simsion. There, you can get ahead with all those duos. Oh, and if we're talking about duos; the book by our Marion and Susan Smit you certainly shouldn't forget, right? It's coming as we speak. When it rolls off the press, you'll be the first to hear it. ‘Hotel Hartzeer’ is the name.
I'm going to turn off my Netflix subscription now because there needs to be reading. Ha, just kidding of course.
