Why a night away in your own city is a good idea

I may have a very nice little house with an even nicer bed in a room with French doors to a garden that is quite impressive (pretty unique in Amsterdam), but when your PR girlfriends invite you for a night away in your own city, you naturally say a resounding ‘YES’. Specifically at the renovated Apollo Hotel, including dinner at Brasserie Bodon (which is truly heaven on earth). Okay, I admit, it's a bit decadent, but I still recommend it: a night away in your own city. Why? Well, that's why...

  1. After you've filled your belly with a platter of fruits de mer that a Frenchman would kneel for, the bouillabaisse is prepared right in front of you fresher than fresh, and that glass of Sauternes with the perfectly cooked crêpe suzette tastes so good that a second glass is a very good idea, you just hop into the elevator and within five minutes you're in bed.
  2. Or in the bath. Because you don't have that at home.
  3. And if you're in the bath, then a glass of champagne belongs there. And let that just be sitting cold in the minibar. Such a waste not to open it.
  4. Because you won't find a better crisp, white made bed anywhere than in a hotel.
  5. Because you've never made coffee so quickly the next morning.
  6. Because hotel breakfasts are the best.
  7. And calories at a hotel breakfast don't count.
  8. So have another freshly baked croissant with butter, fresh strawberry jam, and a perfectly boiled egg from the farm.
  9. Because on a weekday you just feel like you're on a mini-vacation for a moment.
  10. And you're just back home within 5, 10, or 15 minutes.
  11. Because there are no excuses not to hit the gym. No ‘it's raining’, ‘no time’, or ‘no gym membership’.
  12. Because a night in a hotel calls for sexy time with your love.
  13. Because you suddenly get new interior insights. So I slept in the new Apollo Hotel and hey hello, handsome room, can the maker of you just swing by my little house?
  14. Because the next morning you can leave everything as it is and just walk out of your room without cleaning up anything.
  15. And then in the evening you can dive back into your own little bed, which you secretly have missed.
