Hair-free into summer
Without pain, without hassle
I was just enjoying my summer wardrobe this weekend when I suddenly saw a snowy landscape on the other side of the window. While I was already in the spring mood. I had to switch from my strawberry daiquiri state of mind to glühwein mood. But I managed, I really did. The ski suits were surprisingly within reach, but believe me; before you know it, you're stepping out of your house in a short skirt and without a coat. In a full month, it will be spring. And the anticipation starts today. From today, you will visualize how it will all be. The warmth on your skin, the sound of your slipper gently tapping against your sole, the ice cube against the rim of your glass… And you at your best. So without hairy legs. And armpits, and bikini line, and wherever you want.
Hate waxing? I get it. Pain should be avoided as much as possible in life. Moreover, I find a major downside to waxing (yes, that’s a pun) is that you have to let it sit as long as possible. You don’t want that, do you?
I was Team Razor for a long time. Just hop in and out, under the shower. But to be honest, my legs didn’t feel as smooth at the end of a warm beach day as they did that morning. And one wrong move and you have a bloodbath (or blood shower), not really recommendable.

That’s all in the past for me since I got the Lumea from Philips. I flash IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) on the areas of my skin where I don’t want hair. The treatment takes about ten minutes, depending on the area you want to treat. You repeat this again after two weeks and you will see that the hairs are almost gone after three treatments. After your fourth treatment, it’s just a matter of maintenance. You repeat the treatment every four to six weeks.
The treatment is painless. I actually find it quite nice because the light beam gives a bit of warmth. Wonderful on winter days like this. And if you are sensitive, you can lower the intensity.
The Lumea itself is a handy device that you can easily charge with a cord. Once charged, you can use it for quite a while. You can even take it with you if you go away for a weekend with friends; they can all use it. I know student houses that buy the Lumea together. After all, you only need it once every two weeks, so sharing is a serious option. And the lamp lasts a long time, so…
How does it work? Simple. The light flash puts the hair follicles into a dormant state. They release the hair that is in the follicle and stop producing new hairs. Unless you stop the treatment for a long time, then hair growth will start again. That’s nice to know, just in case being hairy and bushy becomes incredibly ‘en vogue’ again.
