JUST IN TIME

Whether I had time to come to the Conservatorium Hotel on Tuesday morning. For Philips. Their new Lumea (you know, the device that really changes your life) Prestige was launched. I had already drooled over it during a general Philips presentation last year, but now it was ready. And mine to have. So off I went, at a brisk pace.

When something is launched by the friends at Philips, they do it well. Or better. Or best. I ended up in a green oasis. With perfect plants, bouquets of wildflowers, slices of salmon and tuna, vegetables, and a hummus dip. Everything, in short, exactly how I want it. And there lay the Lumea Prestige. A.k.a.: your ticket to freedom. The key to spontaneous terrace actions, because you simply take off your jacket when it’s warm and don’t worry at all about something like armpit hair. And if that date with that nice guy leads to more, there’s nothing to worry about. Your bikini line is beautifully maintained.

Because yes, dear friends, hair removal at home with long-lasting results is possible. And it’s easy, quick, and really painless. I think so. How it works, you want to know? I hear you, I know, because you can hardly imagine that it’s possible. But it’s easy.

Here we go.

1. Take the Lumea Prestige.

2. You turn it on.

3. Easy, right?

4. Press the magnifying glass and place the window on your skin. The Lumea Prestige has a smartSkin sensor that precisely measures what skin type you have and which intensity works best for you. And if you prefer a lower intensity, you can adjust it manually.

5. Get started. Apply the correct window (you have one for your legs, one for your bikini line and armpits, and one for your face, namely the upper lip, sideburns, and chin). Make sure the screen makes full contact with your skin. You know you’re doing it right when a white light at the back of the device lights up. Only then can you flash, and that’s also safer. You flash, then you feel a tiny ‘warm pulse’ in your skin, and then you place the window on the next area you want to be hair-free.

6. Repeat the treatment every two weeks. After three times, you will almost be hair-free. One more time for good measure and you’re done. After that, just maintain it for another 6-8 weeks and then you’ll be hair-free all year round.

7. Now start.

I find the treatment a nice ritual and just a solution. Shaving is okay, but at the end of the day, you still see a cautious stubble peeking around the corner. Waxing is painful, and even worse is that you first have to let your hair grow long for a good result. There goes your freedom.

We were all told this by the scientist who developed the Lumea. Hats off, applause, ribbons, and champagne. As a happy person, I cycled back. With the Lumea Prestige in my basket. If this isn’t going to be a beautiful summer…
